YOU SHALL COME FORTH AS GOLD

KEY TEXT: Job 23:10 (KJV) – “But He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.”

God’s trials are there to boost your value. They are not meant to discourage you or do any harm to you. They are meant to purify you and elevate you.

Deuteronomy 8:16 (KJV) – “Who fed thee in the wilderness with manner, which thy fathers knew not, that He might humble thee, and that He might prove thee, to do thee good at thy later end.”

God took the Israelites through the wilderness before He took them to the promised land to humble them and prove them. Verse 3 of Deuteronomy 8 says that God caused the Israelites to hunger. He did this to teach the Israelites to trust and depend on Him.

“The wilderness wandering was not only ordained as a judgment upon the rebels and murmurers, but it was to serve as a discipline for the rising generation, preparatory to their entrance into the Promised Land. Moses declared to them, “As a man chasteneth his son, so the Lord thy God chasteneth thee,” “to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep His commandments, or no. And He … suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that He might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.” Deuteronomy 8:5, 2, 3.” – Patriarchs and Prophets, Page 407.1, Ellen G. White.

In the wilderness, the Israelites were in a place of isolation. They could not trade with anyone. They were in a place where they could not grow anything. They had no other choice but to put their trust in God. If they were in a land where they could grow things or trade, they would have glorified the work of their hands.

However, God had to put them in that isolated place so that they would understand that every good thing comes from God. God fed them with manna which they knew nothing about (Deuteronomy 8:3). They did not fully comprehend how it came. In the wilderness, they experienced miracle after miracle.

Not every bad experience is a bad thing. Even when you go through a bad experience, there is always a good side to it. Nothing is one-sided. No paper has only one side. Every coin has two sides. There is always two sides to everything.

Romans 8:28 (KJV) – “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.”

Trust in God because God is all-powerful. Nothing is impossible with Him.

Psalm 90:1-2 (KJV) – “¹ LORD, Thou hast been a dwelling place in all generations. ² Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever Thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God.”

God has always been our dwelling place. We have no reason to doubt Him. We ought to reflect on this every Sabbath day and every day of our lives.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I trust in Your refining process. Though trials may come, I know You are purifying me like gold. Strengthen my faith, help me to endure, and teach me to rely fully on You. Let me come forth shining for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
