KEY TEXT: 2 Kings 7:3-4 (NKJV) – “3 Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, “Why are we sitting here until we die? 4 If we say, ‘We will enter the city,’ the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. And if we sit here, we die also. Now therefore, come, let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they keep us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall only die.”
There were four lepers. These four lepers had two options: to stay or enter the city. If they chose to remain where they were, they would die because there was nothing good happening where they were as there was a famine in the land.
The second option was to go to the camp of the Syrians. If they went to the base of the Syrians, there was a chance of them getting food, but they risked the Syrians killing them.
They weighed the two options and decided to risk their lives and go to the camp of the Syrians. They chose to risk and try than die without trying.
When they decided to move, this is what happened:
2 Kings 7:5-8 (NKJV) – “5 And they rose at twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians; and when they had come to the outskirts of the Syrian camp, to their surprise, no one was there. 6 For the Lord had caused the army of the Syrians to hear the noise of chariots and the noise of horses—the noise of a great army; so they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to attack us!” 7 Therefore, they arose and fled at twilight and left the camp intact—their tents, their horses, and their donkeys—and they fled for their lives. 8 And when these lepers came to the outskirts of the camp, they went into one tent and ate and drank, and carried from it silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid them; then they came back and entered another tent, and carried some from there also, and went and hid it.”
Let’s look at this story carefully. Four able strong men are almost insignificant when compared to a whole nation. If they choose to fight against an entire country, the citizens of that country will likely defeat them.
These four men who decided to beat the odds and go to the Syrian camp were not even able. They were the weakest of men. They were not just the most vulnerable but also the lowest viewed.
Lepers in those days were cast out and segregated from other ordinary people. When they chose to move, the Lord magnified their steps. The Lord caused the Syrians to hear the noise of many chariots and horses.
This noise made them think they were being attacked by the Israelites, the Egyptians, and the Hittites. Instead of the Syrians killing them as they feared, they ran away from them. In other words, a whole nation ran away from four disabled people.
Four sick and physically weak men caused an entire country with its army to flee. How did they do it? By the power of God. In Jeremiah 32:27 (KJV), God says, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for Me?”
The Syrians fled, leaving behind their horses, silver, gold, clothes, and food, among other valuable items. This story clearly shows that God honors those who make an earnest effort in their lives. It shows that God honors those who take risks because taking risks is an act of faith as long as the risk doesn’t contradict God’s commandments.
The Lord honors those who keep on moving in His way despite the challenges. God honors those who do their duty without making excuses. God might have revealed to you the Sabbath light but you are afraid to obey it because of the challenges that seem to lie ahead of you. Do not hesitate to obey it. Hold God’s mighty hand. Keep moving.
Proverbs 26:13 (KJV) – “The slothful man saith, there is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.” He honors those who focus on the main goal, who look up to Him for direction, trusting in Him to overcome the challenges.
Ecclesiastes 11:4 (KJV) – “He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.” In other words, this verse means that he that does not look at the wind and clouds will sow and reap because the Bible is a book of opposites.
If you want to succeed, keep moving and pushing yourself. However, ensure that God directs you so you don’t waste time doing the wrong things.

Reflect on an area in your life where you feel stuck, hesitant, or afraid to move forward.
Write it down in a journal or discuss it with a trusted friend.
Set a Small, Faithful Step
Like the lepers who had two choices, determine one small step of faith you can take today.
Pray and Act
Pray the prayer from the lesson, asking God to remove fear and give you courage.
Immediately take the step you’ve planned, trusting that God will go ahead of you.
Watch for God’s Hand
Journal any unexpected outcomes, doors that open, or ways you see God’s guidance.
Even if challenges arise, choose to keep moving in faith
Encourage Someone Else
As you share this message with someone else, also share your testimony or encourage a friend who feels stuck.
Challenge them to take their own step of faith.
