THE EXTRA MILE

KEY TEXT: Genesis 42:22 (NKJV) – Reuben answered them, saying, “Did I not speak to you, saying, ‘Do not sin against the boy’, and you would not listen? Therefore behold, his blood is now required of us.”

Reuben did not have an evil motive against his brother, but as the firstborn or the leader, he did not do much to save Joseph. He only spoke to them/suggested to them. If he were genuinely loving, he would have gone the extra mile in saving his brother Joseph.

After giving the Ten Commandments, the statutes, and sending numerous prophets to the world, Christ still went the extra mile by dying on the cross to save humanity. Sometimes speaking is not enough, and preaching is not enough. We must go the extra mile to show our brothers and sisters love.

Reuben faced the same punishment as his brothers because he did not go the extra mile. There is always a blessing in going the extra mile. The reverse is accurate. Not going the extra mile can attract a curse.

If you want to receive extra blessings constantly, you need to make going the extra mile a routine in your life. If Reuben had tried his best to save Joseph and acted on his good intentions and failed, Joseph would not have locked him with the rest of his fellow brothers. He would have given him special treatment.

Having good intentions is not enough. It would be best if you acted on those good intentions wholeheartedly. Reuben received the same treatment as the rest of his brothers because he did nothing different from the rest of his brothers, despite having good intentions.

If you want to stand out from the crowd, you need to act differently from the rest of the group. You cannot be doing the same thing as everyone else and expect better or higher results than them. This principle is powerful in every aspect of life, business and career.

What can you add to your services/products to make them better? What can you do that the rest of the companies in your industry are not doing? What additional value can you add to your product/service? How can you go the extra mile in socializing to establish more networks than you currently have? What can you do to reach more clients than you currently have?

What can you do to bring more people to God? Going the extra mile should be part and parcel of you as your soul is to your body. Even in service to God, go the extra mile.

The bare minimum of a tithe is 10%, but there is nothing wrong if you give 11% or 20%. You may be in a situation whereby everyone is required to provide a certain amount of contribution to a particular course in church. There is absolutely nothing wrong if you choose to contribute more.

The Sabbath is one day of the week that God requires you to give Him your time, but there is nothing wrong if you give him your time on the other days of the week.

“The longest journey is performed by taking one step at a time. A succession of steps brings us to the end of the road. The longest chain is composed of separate links. If one of these links is faulty, the chain is worthless. Thus it is with character. A well-balanced character is formed by single acts well performed. One defect, cultivated instead of being overcome, makes the man imperfect, and closes against him the gate of the Holy City. He who enters heaven must have a character that is without spot or wrinkle or any such thing. Naught that defileth can ever enter there. In all the redeemed host not one defect will be seen.” – Messages to Young People, Page 144.2, Ellen G. White.

Start slowly with the small steps, making one extra small step. Make it a habit to go the extra mile in everything you do.

GOD BLESS YOU!
