Get Truth Get Life

KEY TEXT: Genesis 37:5 (KJV) – “And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.”

Be careful with whom you tell your dreams. Avoid telling your goals to everybody. Don’t expose your aspirations and ambitions to people unless it is ultimately necessary to do so. Many people may not feel good about them.

Genesis 37:20 (KJV) – “Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast hath devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.”

Joseph’s brothers wanted to kill him because they knew and understood that if they killed him, they would kill his dreams. They did not have much problem with him as a person. They had a problem with his dreams. They wanted to kill his dreams, and they knew that the only way they could kill them was by killing him (the dreamer).

It is like water from a river supplied to a particular household through pipes. If you cut off the pipes, you will have cut off the water provided to that household, but the water will keep flowing from that river because you wouldn’t have destroyed the source. But if you can successfully eliminate the source, the river will produce no more water. That is how the devil deals with us.

Satan knows he cannot take away what we have because we will keep making more. But if he kills us, we will produce no more. Therefore, he tries his best to destroy us. He does this by tempting us into sin since he knows that sin’s wages are death (Romans 6:23). He cannot destroy what is inside us because we will keep producing more. Therefore, he aims to eliminate us so that we cannot bear fruit, as is God’s will and commandment for all men from creation (Genesis 1:28 – “Be fruitful and multiply”).

God might have given you musical talent, but the devil comes to destroy you by luring you into singing ungodly music. God might have given you a job or business idea, but the devil brings circumstances that require you to work on Sabbath to destroy you. God might have given you the power and ability to preach, but you use it to preach partial/comfortable truth. God might have given you charisma to relate with people, but you use it discriminatively to minister only to rich people or people you think will benefit you.

John 10:10 (KJV) – “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” The devil’s first aim is to kill you because he knows that your unique existence in this world would prove to be such a great blessing to people if you commit yourself fully to God. Sometimes, he may give you things so that he can use those things later to destroy you. He does not provide you with something because he likes you. “A farmer who fattens a cow for the kill does not like that cow” – Pastor Randy Skeete.

Therefore, let us be careful and tightly guard that which God has given us because the devil is looking for just one moment to finish us. Let us surrender ourselves fully unto God every morning when we wake up and every evening before we go to sleep.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, Thank You for the dreams, gifts, and purpose You have placed in my heart. Help me to guard them wisely and not expose them to the wrong people. Give me discernment to recognize the enemy’s traps and the strength to resist his attacks. I surrender my life and purpose into Your hands. Protect me, guide me, and help me to walk in obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

• Write down a God-given dream or talent that you feel the enemy has tried to destroy.
• Next to it, write John 10:10 as a reminder that Jesus came to give you life abundantly.
• Pray over it daily, asking God to help you protect and develop it for His glory.
