As Moses raised his rod, the sea did split,
God’s power on display, His glory lit.
The depths, like walls, around them all around,
A watery path on faith’s firm ground.
By faith, the Israelites passed through the Red Sea,
For God made a way in the middle of the Red Sea,
As the waves stood tall and free, a wondrous sight to see.
Escaping from captivity, their spirits flying, wild and free.
No foe could follow, as it would be, their bondage left in history,
They sang with joyful glee in faith, God’s love, grace and sovereignty.
With each step in victory, their hearts rejoiced with glee,
If we disobey God, we shall face calamity.
Lack of faith made the once mighty Egyptians drown,
Pharaoh’s heart like stone, his pride unwound.
So let this tale from ancient days resound,
A powerful lesson for faith in Scripture found.
Hebrews 11:29 – “By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.”
The Israelites passed through the red sea easily and swiftly. The Egyptians tried doing the same, but the waters closed as they passed and drowned them. This verse is a powerful text to show that God controls everything, including nature. We often think that it is through our education that we are where we are. Other times we think that it is by our best driving skills that we have arrived at our destinations safely.
Countless times we believe that we have been able to overcome a particular problem by the clever tactics we possess. There is no clever tactic, level of education, or talent that the Israelites would have used to escape from the hand of the Egyptians successfully. They needed divine help. Therefore when God moved, it was clear that God had moved, for the Lord is the Creator of nature and the laws of nature.
Therefore being above all things with His infinite power, He was able to command nature and favor the children of Israel. “Sometimes God may bring or allow tough situations in your life so that when He moves, it can be clear that God has moved.” – Pastor Randy Skeete.
Another thing we can see from this text is that God has more special blessings for His children than He has for others. This does not mean that God loves some people and hates others. God loves everybody and blesses everybody, but He has special blessings for His people.
In John 3:16, it says, “For God so loved the world (meaning He loves everybody), that He gave His only begotten son (He did this act of love for everybody), that whosoever believes in Him (that is His chosen people), shall not perish but have everlasting life (that is a special blessing to His chosen people only).”
Having established that, there are blessings God can give you as His child but not give others. The Egyptians saw the Israelites passing through the red sea and tried doing the same. They thought that they would easily make it since the Israelites had made it because they were human beings like them. In the Egyptians’ eyes, they esteemed the Israelites to be lower than them by a large extent since they were enslaved people in their land.
They did not know that even though the Israelites had lower earthly physical positions, their spiritual rank was higher than theirs. This danger is likely to face many people because we can never know how high an individual ranks spiritually since the spiritual is invisible, unlike the physical, which can easily be seen.
Acts 3:6 (KJV) – “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”
Peter and John did not have much material wealth. Therefore they were not openly flamboyant to attract attention. Despite this, they could heal a lame man and change his situation entirely so that he went from instability to stability. He went from sitting in one place to walking everywhere. They did a miracle that no money could do. They gave the man more than the money he asked for. God will always give you more than you ask for; He will provide you with what you think He can’t give you (Ephesians 3:20).
In the city of Sodom and Gomorrah, some men visited Lot and tried to harm his two male visitors not knowing that the visitors were divine. They were struck blind immediately.
Abraham welcomed the visitors with good hospitality, unaware they were angels. He was doing his duty to God and his fellow men. Hebrews 13:2 (KJV) – “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” You may be praying for something, and God brings it to you in disguise, but you bypass it by esteeming some people lowly. That is why pride is very dangerous.
The Egyptians could only see what was external. They could not see what was internal. And what was internal was the Israelites’ relationship with God. As a child of God, you can open something, and God blesses it so much, but when an unbeliever tries to do the same thing as you, it fails because God’s hand is in your venture but not in the unbeliever’s venture.
The Egyptians drowned in the same way someone else may drown when trying to do something God had not commanded. The Israelites swiftly passed through the red sea because they followed God’s instructions/Commandments. The Egyptians drowned because they were following their own commandments.
“Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto Thy name give glory, for Thy mercy, and for Thy truth’s sake.” Psalm 115:1. Such was the spirit that pervaded Israel’s song of deliverance, and it is the spirit that should dwell in the hearts of all who love and fear God. In freeing our souls from the bondage of sin, God has wrought for us a deliverance greater than that of the Hebrews at the Red Sea. Like the Hebrew host, we should praise the Lord with heart and soul, and voice for His “wonderful works to the children of men.” Those who dwell upon God’s great mercies, and are not unmindful of His lesser gifts, will put on the girdle of gladness and make melody in their hearts to the Lord. The daily blessings that we receive from the hand of God, and above all else, the death of Jesus to bring happiness and heaven within our reach, should be a theme for constant gratitude. What compassion, what matchless love, has God shown to us, lost sinners, in connecting us with Himself, to be to Him a peculiar treasure! What a sacrifice has been made by our Redeemer, that we may be called children of God! We should praise God for the blessed hope held out before us in the great plan of redemption, we should praise Him for the heavenly inheritance and for His rich promises; praise Him that Jesus lives to intercede for us.” – Patriarchs and Prophets, Page 289.2, Ellen G. White.
Seek to follow God, be close to Him, and watch Him move in your life miraculously. You don’t have to be the most intelligent, the most skilled, or the most physically beautiful. You need to follow Him and believe in Him unwaveringly. Ecclesiastes 9:11 (KJV) – “I returned and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.”
Isaiah 58:13-14 (KJV) – “13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.”
Just as the Israelites followed God’s command at the Red Sea, Isaiah 58:13-14 encourages us to honour God’s commandments and find delight in doing His will. Obedience leads to blessings and a deeper connection with God.
MAY GOD RICHLY BLESS YOU!
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
We humbly acknowledge Your divine power over our lives. Like the Israelites at the Red Sea, we rely on Your guidance, not our own understanding.
We trust in Your infinite power, understanding that challenges reveal Your hand in our lives.
Thank you for the special blessings reserved for Your children. Help us discern them, even in disguise.
We seek to be instruments of Your miracles, recognizing that Your blessings surpass our requests.
Guide us by faith, not our own strength or wisdom, so our lives may testify to Your greatness and grace. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Activity
- Set aside a few minutes each day to reflect on the blessings, both big and small, that you’ve received.
- Write at least three things you’re grateful for daily in your journal.
- As you do this, consider how each of these blessings, like the Israelites’ passage through the Red Sea, may not be solely due to your own efforts or circumstances but also reflect divine interventions or favour.
- Reflect on the concept of special blessings for God’s children and how you’ve experienced such blessings.
- Consider how God’s power and grace have impacted your life and your ability to overcome challenges.
