FAITH RECOGNIZES VALUE

By faith, the parents of Moses recognized his value,

Jesus saw our value, died for us to make us anew,

I will go where Jesus sends me, and you?

Through faith, I and you can be made brand new.

He made us worthy from a state of worthlessness,

He made us strong from a state of weakness,

We should be careful and shun carelessness,

Keeping pride away, embracing utmost meekness.

Faith in God recognizes the value in what seems valueless,

Faith in God gives a great name to what was once nameless,

Faith in God makes faithful what was once faithless,

Faith in God gives color to what was once colorless.

Obedience to God turns us from catastrophe,

For God rules everywhere, both land and sea,

Faith in God turns trash and ash into a valuable trophy,

God’s Word made everything, including whales and dolphins.

Hebrews 11:23 (KJV) – “By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.”

‘Because they saw he was a proper child.’ This statement is clear that Moses’ parents understood the value of Moses. They understood the importance of Moses in that they did not fret about sacrificing the pleasure of having him with them for three months.

Three months is quite a long time for a newborn baby who has just been born to be hidden from his parents. They understood the value of Moses was higher than the King’s commandment, which he had issued of killing all Jewish baby boys. They knew they were enslaved people in the land of Egypt and they had no rights. They knew that their lives would have been in severe danger if the King found out that they had been hiding Moses. However, since they had faith, they were not afraid of Pharaoh. They esteemed God (who is invisible) more than the visible Pharaoh (Hebrews 11:27).

How does this verse apply in our lives today?

  1. Many Christians pray, few read the Bible, very few study it, and almost none take time to memorize it because they see no value in doing so.
  2. Many people do substandard work and failing to go beyond the bare minimum in their jobs and their studies because they see no value in it.
  3. Many Sabbath-keeping Christians are willing to go to jobs on Sabbath because they are afraid they might lose their jobs, while others are willing to do exams on Sabbath because they see no value in keeping the Sabbath as they should.
  4. Many Non-Sabbath keeping Christians believe that the Seventh-day is the Sabbath but still won’t do it because they see no value in it.
  5. Many Seventh-day Adventists don’t read Ellen G. White’s books because they see no value in reading them.
  6. Many people dating and courting see no value in abstinence before marriage.
  7. Many young people engage in alcohol and drugs because they see no value in keeping their bodies and minds healthy until they get sick or get involved in a tragedy and start regretting it.
  8. Many people eat all sorts of things and don’t exercise because they see no value in proper health practices.

Many of us sin because we have placed a low value on ourselves.

“Many who are qualified to do excellent work accomplish little because they attempt little. Thousands pass through life as if they had no great object for which to live, no high standard to reach. One reason for this is the low estimate which they place upon themselves. Christ paid an infinite price for us, and according to the price paid He desires us to value ourselves.” – Help in Daily Living, Page 43.1, Ellen G. White.

When Moses was hidden for three months from his parents, he was very young. He couldn’t even walk. Moses’ ministry began when he was around 40 years old. That is quite a long time to wait, especially due to our high level of impatience as human beings. Despite being young, his parents could see his value when he was still a baby.

Many people engage in sin knowingly because they think it will take such a long time for God to come, so they want to continue enjoying the pleasures of this world. Others engage in evil because they are still young, and they don’t want to miss out on anything. They say they will start following God when they get old, not knowing if they will reach that age because we have no guarantee of the next minute or second in our lives.

If Moses’ parents had delayed hiding Moses, he would have probably been killed. If he had been killed, the Israelites would have delayed being delivered out of Egypt. God might have spoken great blessings in your life, but you are slowing them when you delay acting righteously. God might have spoken great blessings in your life, but one sin erases those blessings.

Genesis 25:34 (KJV) – “Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.”

Just like Esau, we despise our birthright. In other words, we detest what is ours. To clarify, we see no value in what we already have.

“Be not satisfied with reaching a low standard. We are not what we might be, or what it is God’s will that we should be. God has given us reasoning powers, not to remain inactive, or to be perverted to earthly and sordid pursuits, but that they may be developed to the utmost, refined, sanctified, ennobled, and used in advancing the interests of His kingdom.” – Help in Daily Living, Page 43.2, Ellen G. White.

Friends, it’s high time we see the value in righteous practices because righteousness EXALTS a nation (Proverbs 14:34). It also EXALTS an individual.

GOD BLESS YOU!
