THE ULTIMATE PROTECTION

I fear nothing, I’m under the Almighty’s shadow,
My Father God has placed me in His divine cradle,
I fear no drought, no famine, no earthquake, no tornado,
Nothing scares me, whether in Nairobi or Colorado.

Truth is my shield and ultimate buckler,
Driving me in the right direction, the perfect rider,
It repairs my life, the ultimate chuckler,
Truth sets me free from the ferocious attacker.

Truth is light; Truth is luculent,
Truth is sweet; Truth is succulent,
Truth shields even from the worst ailment,
Truth heals; Truth is the best supplement.

God is my refuge, God is my fortress,
In Him, I find luxury comfort than a Saatva Mattress,
God shields me from poverty and puts me in the best place,
God will make me pure; God will make me flawless.

Psalm 91:4 (KJV) – “He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust: His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”

Definition of shield – A person or thing providing protection.

Definition of buckler – a small round shield held by a handle or worn on the forearm.

“His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” A shield and a buckler are both used for protection. The words shield and buckler have been used together to emphasize how powerful God’s protection is. Some people may decide to use a shield while others may decide to use a buckler. However, those who decide to use them both have more protection than those who only use one.

To clarify this, a house with a wooden door only is not well protected like a house that has both a wooden and a metal door. God’s truth acts like that wooden and metal door combined together. It acts like both the shield and buckler. God’s truth (not someone else’s) is meant to safeguard you. Everything written in the Bible is meant to protect you. Therefore, you need to use God’s Word for ultimate fortification when the enemy comes to attack you.

For you to use God’s Word effectively for your protection you must know it. Therefore, strive to know the Word of God. Proverbs 9:10 (KJV) – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”

The best way to know God is through His Word. Knowledge of God’s Word, which results in a knowledge of God, sharpens and deepens your understanding. John 17:3 (KJV) – “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” Knowledge of God is eternal life.

“A knowledge of God is the foundation of all true education and of all true service. It is the only real safeguard against temptation. It is this alone that can make us like God in character.” – The Ministry of Healing, Page 409.2, Ellen G. White.

The Word of God shields us from sinning. In Matthew 4, when the Devil came to tempt Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus used the Word of God as His ultimate defense by answering the Devil, “It is written” in all three temptations. Jesus knew the Word of God and as a result, He was able to resist the Devil, and as the Bible promises in James 4:7, the Devil fled from Him.

God wants to give us full protection. Why? When an enemy confronts you on the head in a physical battle and you have shielded your chest, the shield will be of no use. When he attacks your legs, and you have covered your hands only, the covering will be useless. That is why Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on the whole armour of God.”

All components in the armour of God work together to enable you to defend yourself against the enemy. All elements in that armour need each other in order to work effectively. Therefore, if you want the truth to shield you fully you need to apply it fully, not partially.

“Man is contending with foes who are stronger than he. “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against wicked spirits in high places.” Ephesians 6:12. It is impossible for us in our own strength to maintain the conflict; and whatever diverts the mind from God, whatever leads to self-exaltation or to self-dependence, is surely preparing the way for our overthrow. The tenor of the Bible is to inculcate distrust of human power and to encourage trust in divine power.” – Patriarchs and Prophets, Page 717.1, Ellen G. White.

You need to believe that the Bible is true from Genesis to Revelation and apply everything written in it. When you apply it partially, you leave some areas of your life endangered. When your body is not fully shielded in battle, some parts of your body can get injured, therefore causing the whole body to be in pain and unable to properly function.

The same applies to your life. You can get injured in those areas of your life where you have not applied truth. If you use the truth to govern your finances and fail to use the truth to govern your health, your finances will thrive but your health will be deprived. Another example is when you refrain from stealing and fail to keep the Sabbath, you will get the blessing of not stealing but miss out on the blessing of the Sabbath.

Which commandments of God are we supposed to obey for our lives to be fully blessed?

Deuteronomy 28:1 – “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all His commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:” The keyword in this verse is all, not missing out on any. God wants us to observe all His commandments because He wants to set us on high above all nations of the world. God wants us to access all the blessings that He has in store for us.

Deuteronomy 8:1 (KJV) – “All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers.” The commandments given to us by God are for our good. They are meant for our prosperity.

Isaiah 48:17-18 (AMP) – “17 This is what the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says, “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit (benefit), Who leads you in the way that you should go. 18 “Oh, that you had paid attention to My commandments! Then your peace and prosperity would have been like a [flowing] river, And your righteousness [the holiness and purity of the nation] like the [abundant] waves of the sea.”

Few people in the world and even in the Christian community are willing to obey God 100%, which explains why few people in the world are fully blessed. Many enjoy partial obedience because full obedience is not convenient for them. James 2:10 (KJV) – “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” He is guilty of all because he gives the Devil a loophole to enter, and once the Devil enters, he corrupts the whole being.

The Devil doesn’t want a large space to enter and take charge of someone’s life. He needs a very small space. Galatians 5:9 (AMPC) – A little leaven (a slight inclination to error, or a few false teachers) leavens the whole lump [it perverts the whole conception of faith or misleads the whole church].” Once you give the devil room to attack you through one sin, you end up committing other sins.

Sin builds up. One sin usually leads to another sin. In the story of King David and Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11), David looked at Bathsheba first and lusted after her. Afterward, he devised a scheme to murder her husband, Uriah. Then he went ahead and killed Uriah and took his wife, Bathsheba.

Commenting on the story of David and Bathsheba, Ellen G. White writes in her book Patriarchs and Prophets, Page 717.2, “The work of the enemy is not abrupt; it is not, at the outset, sudden and startling; it is a secret undermining of the strongholds of principle. It begins in apparently small things—the neglect to be true to God and to rely upon Him wholly, the disposition to follow the customs and practices of the world.”

Usually, when a part of your body is sick, your whole body ends up feeling uncomfortable. Your peace of mind is deprived. Your whole body feels weak because one part is aching. Sin works similarly. One sin can discompose your whole life. It tampers your every faculty and befuddles every part of your life. The longer sin stays in your life, the scruffier your life gets. Your spiritual life, social life, health, and finances get messed up.

For example, you may use your entire working time on social media instead of working. Sometimes at the workplace, you fill in that you are present while you are absent. Your boss may not know, but God is watching. Such behaviors will cause your productivity at work to get lower, and you may eventually lose your job.

Once you have lost your job, you begin losing friends, and instability in your family arises because you can’t provide. This condition leads to stress which may lead to more serious mental health issues like depression which may turn to ulcers, and as a result, your physical health gets impaired. This leads to confusion and desperation, so you start engaging in evil deeds to provide for your family. The cycle goes from bad to worse. If you had kept God’s truth as your shield and buckler, all this would not have happened. Most of the bad things in an individual’s life can be avoided if he allows God’s truth to govern his life.

Psalm 91:9-11 (KJV) – “Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”

We need to make God our refuge. We need to dwell in the secret place of the Most High. When God is our refuge, our safety is assured. Nothing can happen to us because we are under the cover of the almighty. We are under the shadow of the most powerful being in the universe.

In Job 1:8, God asked Satan, “Hast thou considered my servant Job?” The key phrase is my servant. Job was God’s servant, not anyone else’s servant. The Devil answered by saying, “Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land (Job 1:10, KJV).” The Devil was saying that because God had provided a covering of protection for Job, no one could touch him. Why? Because Job had kept God as his ultimate protection. He depended upon God’s Word always.

Job probably realized that he could neither protect nor bless himself. As much as he worked, he acknowledged that the results he got were not from his efforts but from God. Satan acknowledged that, too, when he said in Job 1:10 (KJV) – “Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.” We need to realize that without Jesus, we can do nothing (John 15:5). We need to acknowledge that we depend on God for everything because He created us and from Him flows the breath of life (Genesis 2:7).

“The first lesson to be taught … is the lesson of dependence upon God…. As a flower of the field has its root in the soil; as it must receive air, dew, showers, and sunshine, so must we receive from God that which ministers to the life of the soul.” – Testimonies For The Church 7:194, Ellen G. White.

“The presence of God is guaranteed to the Christian. This Rock of faith is the living presence of God. The weakest may depend upon it. Those who think themselves the strongest may become the weakest unless they depend on Christ as their efficiency, their worthiness. This is the Rock upon which we may build successfully. God is near in Christ’s atoning sacrifice, in His intercession, His loving, tender ruling power over the church. Seated by the eternal throne, He watches them with intense interest. As long as the members of the church shall through faith draw sap and nourishment from Jesus Christ, and not from man’s opinions and devisings, and methods; if having a conviction of the nearness of God in Christ, they put their entire trust in Him, they will have a vital connection with Christ as the branch has connection with the parent stock. The church is established not on theories of men, on long-drawn-out plans and forms. It depends upon Christ their righteousness. It is built on faith in Christ, “and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” – Sons and Daughters of God, Page 77.3, Ellen G. White.

“The strength of every soul is in God and not in man. Quietness and confidence is to be the strength of all who give their hearts to God. Christ has not a casual interest in us but an interest stronger than a mother for her child…. Our Saviour has purchased us by human suffering and sorrow, by insult, reproach, abuse, mockery, rejection, and death. He is watching over you, trembling child of God. He will make you secure under His protection…. Our weakness in human nature will not bar our access to the heavenly Father, for He [Christ] died to make intercession for us.” – Our Father Cares, Page 20, Ellen G. White.

John 15:4-5 (KJV) – “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in Me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

Luke 24:45 (AMP) – “Then He opened their minds to [help them] understand the Scriptures.”

Make God’s Word your shield and buckler. Ask God to open your mind to help you understand it. Have faith in God. Faith in God is the ultimate protection.

God bless you!

Prayer

Dear God, protect me from all the wiles of evil. Forgive me for all the sins that I have committed, the ones my family has done, and even the ones my forefathers did. Keep me away from sin and give me the strength to overcome temptation. Please put a hedge around me and cover my life, health, finances, family, and friends. If there are any loopholes, I ask you to refill them. In Jesus name, Amen.
