FAITH IS HAVING A HEAVEN-BOUND MIND

Hey, what’s on your mind today?

Are you hunting for treasures amidst life’s hay?

Well, here’s a tip that’ll make you shine,

Cultivate a heaven-bound mind, it’s a diamond in the mine!

Are you lost in thought, chasing rabbits down the hole,

Or are you focused on your goals, taking charge of your role?

How about redirecting your thoughts to something grand,

A heaven-bound mind is like a compass in your hand!

Do you yearn for a place up high,

Or are you stuck in a place where darkness won’t die?

Choose carefully who you follow and you’ll see,

A heaven-bound mind is like a ticket to eternity!

Do you mirror people who walk on this earth,

Or do you follow the One who made the heaven and earth?

A heaven-bound mind is like a recipe for success,

So let’s focus on the One who can make us blessed!

Hebrews 11:8-10 (KJV) – “8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.”

“Of the posterity of Abraham it is written, “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.” Verse 13. We must dwell as pilgrims and strangers here if we would gain “a better country, that is, an heavenly.” Verse 16. Those who are children of Abraham will be seeking the city which he looked for, “whose builder and maker is God.” – Patriarchs and Prophets, Page 170.2, Ellen G. White.

Even though Abraham had God’s promise to inherit land on earth, his focus was not on this life. His focus was on the life to come. While he sojourned in the land of promise as in a strange country, it was tough for him. He was living in tabernacles/tents in that land of promise which was quite hard. You can imagine being hungry and having food on the table that you can’t eat. However, this never troubled Abraham because his focus was on higher things. He put his mind on the city with foundations.

Commenting on Abraham, Ellen G. White writes in her book, With God at Dawn, Page 355, “He possessed great substance, and he used it to the glory of God and good of his fellow-men; but he did not look upon this world as his home. The Lord had called him to leave his idolatrous countrymen, with the promise of the land of Canaan as an everlasting possession; yet neither he nor his son nor his son’s son received it.”

“Put your mind on the city with foundations whose builder and maker is God for as long as your mind is on the city, the experiences of the tabernacle are bearable.” – Pastor Randy Skeete. It is like undertaking a short course training whereby you know after you are done with the course, you will get your dream job. The course may be strenuous but you will be willing to undergo the stress because of the rewards you await. Therefore a mind that is heaven-bound will not feel much pain from the trouble he faces in this world compared to an earthly-bound mind. A mind that is earthly bound has no hope. Therefore the pain may end up destroying the person. That is why it is dangerous not to believe in God. As some think, not believing in God does not cause one to be an intellectual giant. On the contrary, not believing in God causes one to be an intellectual dwarf, void of wisdom, because their focus is not on things above but on lowly things.

Matthew 6:33 (KJV) – “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

God wants to give you all these things, but He does not want your focus to be on them. He wants your focus on higher things that are not of this world. If you focus on things of this world, you will be like the unbelievers (gentiles), and you won’t be able to go as high in achievements as God intends. An example is Jeremiah. God ordained Jeremiah to be a prophet unto the nations (Jeremiah 1:5). If he neglected God’s calling and ventured into something else to make money and earn a living, he wouldn’t have been as great as God intended him to be. God knew He had plans to prosper Jeremiah and not harm him. He knew that if Jeremiah would agree to follow Him, People would read Jeremiah’s work for thousands of years. And as we can see by focusing on God, Jeremiah has been able to impact billions worldwide across generations. Jeremiah’s focus was on the city with foundations and upon this focus, he built a strong tower of God’s truth that is unshakeable. He agreed to be used by God and, as a result, got the privilege to have kings and men of all caliber, including those in lofty positions, listen to him, and some followed and still follow his God-given counsel. His counsel has been able to raise men from the lowliest of ranks to unfathomable heights.

“All these things,” said Jesus, “do the nations of the world seek after.” “Your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Luke 12:30; Matthew 6:32, 33. I have come to open to you the kingdom of love and righteousness and peace. Open your hearts to receive this kingdom, and make its service your highest interest. Though it is a spiritual kingdom, fear not that your needs for this life will be uncared-for. If you give yourself to God’s service, He who has all power in heaven and earth will provide for your needs.” – Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, Page 99.1, Ellen G, White.

Proverbs 23:4 (KJV) – “Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.” The Bible does not say you should not be rich. Instead, it says, “do not labor to be rich.” Many who have labored to be rich have labored so hard, and still, they have been unable to get riches. Those who have gotten stupendous wealth are those whose labor focuses on a higher purpose. The highest purpose we can ever focus on is entering into God’s kingdom and having the righteousness of Christ. This focus will set us high above everyone else in the world, and whatever work we do will surpass the work of worldly men and women.

Someone whose sole focus is God’s kingdom has a higher aim. If he is a doctor, he will do his best to save a patient from dying. He will intercede for each patient under his care, and in his attempt to heal the patient, he will realize that he can’t do anything by his own might. John 15:5 (KJV) – “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth not in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” Therefore, the physician will be constantly dependent on God, and as a result, they will bring forth much fruit. A lawyer whose first focus is the kingdom of God will not support and defend a client in court who has broken God’s law. A teacher who seeks God’s kingdom and His righteousness will want all students in their class to acquire salvation. As a result, they will treat the students with love and do their best to ensure that even the slowest learner and naughtiest students get the most out of the lessons. They will aim to transform, not just to inform. A pastor who loves God above everyone else will always preach the truth. A president or a leader of any jurisdiction will depend on God to guide him in all their affairs and will lean not on their own understanding. Thus, because heaven’s high principles will govern the earthly organization, God’s will; will be done on earth as it is in heaven. The nation or organization they lead will be likened to a little heaven.

“Jesus does not release us from the necessity of effort, but He teaches that we are to make Him first and last and best in everything. We are to engage in no business, follow no pursuit, seek no pleasure, that would hinder the outworking of His righteousness in our character and life. Whatever we do is to be done heartily, as unto the Lord.” – Thoughts from the Mount of Blessings, Page 99.2, Ellen G. White.

Exodus 20:8-11 (KJV) – “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.”

The fourth commandment starts by saying remember. This is a call for the use of memory, the use of one’s mind. This commandment means that the Sabbath should always be at the top of our minds because the Sabbath points us to God as the Creator. Therefore, when we acknowledge that God is our Creator, we will realize that we depend on Him in everything, and our focus will always be on Him. We will focus on what He has in store for us rather than what we have in store for ourselves.

“God’s everlasting arm encircles the soul that turns to Him for aid, however feeble that soul may be. The precious things of the hills shall perish, but the soul that lives for God shall abide with Him. “The world passeth away, and the lust thereof; but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.” 1 John 2:17. The city of God will open its golden gates to receive him who learned while on earth to lean on God for guidance and wisdom, for comfort and hope, amid loss and affliction. The songs of the angels will welcome him there, and for him the tree of life shall yield its fruit. “The mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but My kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of My peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee.” Isaiah 54:10.” – Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing, Page 99.4, Ellen G. White.
