The faith of the foreign harlot called Rahab,
Surpassed the faith of the chosen Israel King called Ahab,
Sometimes unbelievers show strong faith than believers,
Because believers have chosen to be deceivers.
Believers are deceivers when they aim to be receivers and not givers,
Not letting blessings flow, they act like blocked and unclogged rivers,
Blocking the outlets, deprived of fresh water, their rivers are in constant pollution,
Constant pollution creates more problems with no solution.
A leader with no solution causes revolution because of no constructive contribution,
Which in turn causes more and more confusion,
Like Josiah, we can make a resolution,
To turn to God and acknowledge Him as the only solution.
Hebrews 11:31 (KJV) – “By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.”
The harlot Rahab was among the people who did not believe in God. However, she acted with the fear of God and received the spies in peace. Pastor Randy Skeete says, “Even if you are an atheist if you do things God’s way you are blessed. If you are an atheist and you return a tithe, you receive the blessing of the tithe.” If you are an atheist and fail to steal or practice any form of monetary corruption, you won’t face the consequences that come with that sin.
If God can bless people who do a few good things, how much more will He bless you if you obey everything He says? God tends to reward you with so much for something tiny you have done. When you do something small to God, He won’t reimburse your action with something small in return. God will remunerate it with something big.
Not only will He recompense it with something big, but He will multiply it greatly. Investments in stocks, land and all earthly property can depreciate or be destroyed, but investing in God will never be damaged. God wants to bless you more than you want Him to bless you. That is why in His word, He reminds you time and again to obey Him. That is why He compels you to have the spirit of giving and not receiving. Acts 20:35 (KJV) – “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
“The disciples were the channel of communication between Christ and the people. This should be a great encouragement to His disciples today. Christ is the great Center, the Source of all strength. His disciples are to receive their supplies from Him. The most intelligent, the most spiritually minded, can bestow only as they receive. Of themselves they can supply nothing for the needs of the soul. We can impart only as we receive, and we can receive only as we impart. As we continue to impart, we shall continue to receive; and the more we impart, the more we shall receive.” – The Signs of the Times, January 22, 1902, Par.6, Ellen G. White.
1 Chronicles 29:14 (KJV) – “But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.”
Everything we give back to God belongs to Him. God is exceedingly good that He gives you something and asks you to return a small portion of what he has given you, and in return, He blesses you with more than you had before. God does not ask for what He has not bestowed on you. Instead, He asks for what He has already given you.
God has shown patience and mercy to you, and He expects you to show the same to others. God has filled your life with joy and peace and hopes you serve other people’s lives with joy and peace. God has given you knowledge and understanding of His word and expects you to transfer it to others. We are like a channel for blessings to flow; we should not block that channel. We should let the river of benefits that flow to our lives flow to other people’s lives.
Rahab heard how powerful God is and what He had done to the surrounding nations, and with the fear of God, she acted accordingly. She did a simple act of hiding two spies in her house. As a result, God saved her and her family from destruction even though she was a prostitute.
Joshua 2:10-11 (KJV) – “10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. 11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above, and in the earth beneath.”
The whole nation of Jericho heard what God had done to the two kings of the Amorites, and the entire nation feared. Rahab was part of the nation of Jericho. However, the whole country perished, but Rahab and her family did not.
The difference between Rahab and the rest of Jericho was Rahab was the only one who acted by faith. Rahab was the only one who allowed the blessings that had flown to her (knowing who God is and what He can do) to flow to other people. The other people received the blessings when they heard what God had done to the surrounding nations but did not allow those blessings to flow by letting the Israelites peacefully into that land. As a result, they were destroyed.
Blessings don’t have to be tangible to know you have acquired them. They can be spiritual and invisible. They can come through listening to someone else’s testimony or seeing a miracle happen. They can come as a new Bible verse you hadn’t known or spiritual insight from a Christian book. They can be in the form of a compliment from someone or an act of kindness. Whichever form they take, allow those blessings to flow freely.
Don’t block that channel. If you stop it, you won’t have room for more blessings to flow to you. American comedian and talk show host Steve Harvey wanted a new car, and every time he would tell his mother about it, his mum would tell him to get rid of his old car. Steve says he received a new car after getting rid of his old car. He says removing the old vehicle created an empty parking space for the new car to park.
You ask God for a car and haven’t exhausted your feet, or public transportation means doing God’s work. You have never gone for missions, done any outreach, or visited anyone in a hospital or prison, or children’s home. You never even visit your neighbors when they are bereaved or face challenges. God may ask you, “Yes, you want a car, but for what?”
You want a bigger house but have never invited anybody to your small one. You want God to give you the opportunity to travel outside the country, but you have never used the chance to visit the afflicted in neighboring counties, cities, or states.
You may be telling God, ‘Give me the opportunity to visit Mauritius or Italy” God is asking you in return, “To do what?” It is God’s will that you should travel to see more of His creation. It is also God’s will that when you travel there, you may be a blessing, not a curse.
You want God to give you the opportunity to travel and see the historical sites written in the Bible, and you never read the Bible. How will you know them if you have never studied about them? How sure are you that you are not living in one of them? If you want new clothes in your wardrobe, remove the old ones filling space to create room for the new.
John C. Maxwell says, “No one gets rich without enriching others.” You want more money but haven’t exhausted the free or available resources that God has given you to further His kingdom. For example, one of my free resources is the WordPress and Tumblr platforms, which I use to write my Christian blog. Another free resource I have is people’s phone numbers, WhatsApp groups, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Telegram.
Through writing and sharing on those free media platforms, the blog has been read by people in over 110 countries and all continents. It has reached almost all Islamic nations. All that has been done with no money.
I don’t know which free resources are at your disposal and what gift you possess, but if dedicated to God, you can use it to the maximum and have a more significant impact than that. When God sees you have maximized fully at the level you are in, He will push you to the next level so that you can have a more significant impact.
Once you have done your part, you give God a better reason to grant your requests.
Joshua 2:12-13 (AMP) – “12 And now, please swear [an oath] to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s household (family), and give me a pledge of truth and faithfulness, 13 and spare my father and my mother and my brothers and my sisters, along with everyone who belongs to them, and let us all live.” Rahab did what was right in God’s sight, and she had the right to request blessings from God (for her and her family to be spared). God saw that she had done all she could with what she had and blessed her by granting her request.
“There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.” Mark that pool which receives the showers of heaven, but has no outlet. It is a blessing to no one, but in stagnant selfishness poisons the air around. Now look at the stream flowing from the mountain side, refreshing the thirsty land through which it passes. What blessing it brings! One would think that in giving so liberally, it would exhaust its resources. But not so. It is a part of God’s great plan that the stream that gives shall never lack; and day by day and year by year it flows on its way, ever receiving and ever giving.” The Signs of the Times, January 22, 1902, Par.7, Ellen G. White.
If you want to be blessed immeasurably, then you should make it a habit to bless others immeasurably. Strive to reach a point whereby you cannot count your good deeds, and God will give you blessings you cannot measure. Once you give, you can never stop giving because you will never lack something to offer.
Sharing will not make you poor as many think, but it will allow more blessings to flow. That is why Jesus says in Matthew 5:42 (KJV) – “Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.” Peter and John had no money, but when the lame man asked them for money, they did not turn him away. Instead, Peter told him in Acts 3:6 (KJV) – “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”
Their lacking material goods did not mean they had nothing to give. They had the spiritual gift of healing, and that is what they gave the lame man. The spiritual gift proved more beneficial than the material gift because it completely transformed the man’s condition for the rest of his years. This act blessed others who witnessed and heard of the story, including us, reading it today. No matter how empty their pocket is, a genuine Christian can never lack something to give.
It takes no money to preach the Word of God to someone. One needs no money to fast and pray for someone. It takes no money to give someone a word of encouragement, and it takes little to no money to share with someone a devotional article. Like Rahab, we can move by faith and do daily righteous actions.
2 Chronicles 35:20-24 (KJV) – “20 After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Charchemish by Euphrates: and Josiah went out against him. 21 But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not. 22 Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo. 23 And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded. 24 His servants therefore took him out of that chariot, and put him in the second chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died, and was buried in one of the sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.”
The way God blessed Rahab abundantly for doing one righteous act is the same way you can receive a curse for doing one sinful thing. The Bible describes Josiah in 2 Kings 23:25 (KJV) – “Now before him, there was no king like him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart, with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the Law of Moses; nor after him did any arise like him.” It describes Josiah as a king whose life was fully surrendered to God.
2 Chronicles 35:18 (KJV) – “And there was no passover like to that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did all the kings of Israel keep such a passover as Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel that were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.”
2 Chronicles 35:18 describes Josiah’s Passover as the best Passover that was kept. However, 2 Chronicles 35:20-24 talks about the death of King Josiah. It says that King Josiah died by committing one sinful act of disobedience: attempting to fight the King of Egypt, who was God sent. This one act of unrighteousness brought a great curse to Josiah and killed him despite living a Godly life all his life. One sinful act prevented Moses from entering the Promised Land, and one righteous act saved the sinner at the cross. Let us endeavor to do more righteous deeds.
You are a genuine Christian and have experienced God’s blessings by returning the tithe. You have experienced His blessings by not having other gods before Him and not making carved images and worshipping them. You have experienced the blessings of not taking God’s name in vain, not killing, committing adultery, stealing, lying, or coveting. You have experienced God’s blessings in keeping nine commandments out of ten in Exodus 20. You are probably missing out on the fourth commandment, keeping the Sabbath Holy.
Missing out on that one commandment translates to missing out on the blessings that flow through that one commandment. You have prayed and fasted for a long time, but God has not granted your requests yet. God might be waiting for you to keep that one commandment you are not keeping for Him to bless you fully and give you what you are asking. He may be waiting for you to keep the correct Sabbath day which is the seventh day, not a seventh day, meaning it is only one day, and that is Saturday. God blessed Rahab through one righteous act, and He will bless you fully when you do all virtuous deeds.
Prayer
Dear God, help me use everything you have given me for your glory. Please help me to keep all your commandments. Make my light shine and help me have a righteous influence on my family and all those who are watching me. Through me, let all people I come in contact with be led to you. In Jesus name, Amen.
Activity
- Take a pen and a piece of paper and write down all blessings God has given you. This list can include all the good things about you, your skills, talents, and the area of knowledge you are gifted with.
- Along each item, prayerfully write how you can use it to benefit others. For example, if you have been blessed with a pleasing smile, you can use it to warm people when you greet them. If you have been blessed with a vast social media following, use it to share Godly things. If you have been blessed with the ability to tell stories excitingly, you can use that gift to narrate Bible stories. If your passion is reading books, use this passion to share whatever interesting thing or quote you have learned from that book. Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God and let the blessings flow.
- Go to Exodus 20:3-17, analyze the Ten Commandments, and look for the ones you are not keeping. Ask God to help you keep them.
GOD BLESS YOU!
