KEY TEXT: Genesis 1:9-13 (KJV) – “9 And God said, Let the waters under the Heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called He Seas: and God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.”
God created the dry land first before He put vegetation in it. After making the dry land, He put trees and grass and herb.
Genesis 1:6-8 (KJV) – “6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.”
Genesis 1:14-19 (KJV) – “14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the Heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the Heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: He made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the Heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.”
God first created the firmament (the sky) before He made the sun, moon, and stars.
Genesis 1:20-23 (KJV) – “20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of Heaven. 21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.”
God first created the water bodies before putting fish and all water creatures in them. He had created the sky and the trees before He made the birds to fly in the sky and rest on the trees.
Genesis 1:26-27 (KJV) – “26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
“After the earth with its teeming animal and vegetable life had been called into existence, man, the crowning work of the Creator, and the one for whom the beautiful earth had been fitted up, was brought upon the stage of action. To him was given dominion over all that his eye could behold; for “God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness: and let them have dominion over …all the earth…. So God created man in His own image; …male and female created He them.”- Patriarchs and Prophets, Page 44.3, Ellen G. White.
God created man last after He had created a complete environment for man to live in and everything he needed for his daily sustenance. In Genesis 1:28, He commands man to be fruitful and multiply. This does not only mean the multiplication of children as most of us interpret it to mean. This also means being fruitful in every good work. Before God made man and gave him that commandment, He had given him all the provisions to be fruitful and multiply. If man were to venture into fruit farming, there were ready seeds in the fruits of the garden’s trees. There was soil, water, and air. There were rocks and ready wood if they were to venture into construction. Every raw material we need to be productive is in this world we are living in because we are all born in a complete world.
From these divine examples, we can see that when God tells you to do something, He has already provided you with the requirements for its accomplishment. He does not ask you to return a tithe from what you don’t have. Instead, He tells you to return a tithe from what you have already earned. He tells you to keep the seventh day Sabbath holy and rest because He knows six days are enough to do all you want for the week. He created the universe in six days and rested on the Seventh-day.
There is none of us whose work is more and will ever be more than God’s work of creating the whole universe. Therefore, we cannot argue that we do not have enough time to work for six days. If we are organized like God, six days are enough to do all we have to do for that week. Being disorganized contributes highly to causing people to lack time to do all that they had planned to do. In the pattern of creation, God showed us that we ought to embark on life step by step. In the staircase of life, when you try to use short cuts by skipping the necessary steps, you may end up breaking your legs. As a result, you may find yourself going back to square one. In other words, short cuts are not always short. Sometimes it may be difficult to know the next step to take. That is why you need to depend on God’s guidance in every step you take.
When Jesus performed the miracle of changing water into wine, He commanded the servants to pour water into the water pots (John 2:7). This means that the water pots and the water were available, even though the wine was not available. One lesson that Jesus was trying to teach them is, “use what you have to get what you want.”
When God sends you somewhere, He has already provided you with what you need to go there. If He sends you to go on a mission, do not fret because of a lack of resources. God has already provided resources for you to go. Sometimes He might have even softened the people’s hearts before you arrive there. Prophet Jonah feared going to Nineveh to preach because he feared they might kill him when he told them the truth. When he finally went there, they received the message humbly and repented.
1 Kings 17:9 (KJV) – “Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.” Before God sent Elijah to Zarephath, He commanded a widow to receive him there.
When God gives you a child, He has already provided you with everything you need to bring up that child. Don’t abort or abandon that child because you do not know where to get the resources for raising that child. God is going to provide for them every step of the way. That is why He tells us not to worry about tomorrow. When God unites you in marriage, He has already given you what you need for that marriage to be successful. When God gives you a business idea, He has already delivered what you need for the success of that idea.
Whatever God tells you to do, He has given you provision for its success. You may not see the provision before you start the journey. However, you don’t have to see it; you should just trust Him. The provision is usually visible once you have embarked on that journey. It is waiting patiently for you on the way.
GOD BLESS YOU!
Prayer
Our Heavenly Father, thank You for providing everything that I need to be successful in this life’s journey. Please help me to use all that you have given me for your glory and for the blessing of Your people. In Jesus name, Amen.
Activity
Write a Promise or Calling:
On a small paper, write down something you believe God is calling you to do (for example: “Be more loving to my family,” “Start a project,” “Grow in prayer,” etc.).
Think About What You Already Have:
Below the promise, list 2 or 3 things God has already given you that can help you begin. (Example: time, a friend who encourages you, a talent, a Bible, etc.)
Plant a Seed:
Gently place a seed in the soil and water it. As you plant it, say a short prayer:
“God, thank You for providing what I need. Help me grow in what You’ve called me to do.”
Put the Promise Somewhere Visible:
Place the paper near the pot or stick it on the side of the container. Every time you water the seed and watch it grow, remember:
God has already given you the soil, the sun, and the water, just like He did at Creation. Your job is to trust and grow.
