KEY TEXT: John 9:1-3 (KJV) – “1 And as Jesus passed by, He saw a man which was blind from his birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.”
Jesus did not say that the blind man and his parents were not sinners. He said that it is not the man’s or his parent’s sins that he was born blind. The reason he was born blind was for God’s works to be manifested. God’s work revealed in Him would result in the name of God being glorified.
God is the type of God who sometimes allows you to be in situations that seem impossible so that He can reveal that He is God indeed. He does not do this out of pride or show-off. He does this out of love. He knows that sometimes people hesitate to go to Him, and even those who go to Him approach Him with unbelief. Therefore, He overcomes our impossibilities for us to believe that He exists. This is because He desires you to inherit blessings from Him, such as eternal life.
God cured the man who was born blind, a situation that seemed impossible. The Lord gave Abraham and Sarah a child when they were both old. Not only were they aged, but Abraham’s loins and Sarah’s womb were dead. He parted the Red Sea for the Israelites to cross, and the Egyptians who followed them drowned (Hebrews 11:29).
God brought water from a rock, a tough and dry substance. He saved Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from being burned in the fiery furnace heated seven times (Daniel 3). He prevented the lions from eating Daniel when Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den (Daniel 6). Luke 1:37 says, “With God nothing shall be impossible.”
God did not stop Nebuchadnezzar from throwing the three Hebrew boys into the fiery furnace, nor did He stop Darius from throwing Daniel into the lion’s den. The fiery furnace and the lion’s den were perfect for the three Hebrew boys and Daniel. Through these circumstances, the faith of Daniel and his friends was strengthened. Eventually, these circumstances made pagan people witness the power of the almighty God, which made some of them get converted, like King Nebuchadnezzar.
“God did not prevent Daniel’s enemies from casting him into the lions’ den; He permitted evil angels and wicked men thus far to accomplish their purpose; but it was that He might make the deliverance of His servant more marked, and the defeat of the enemies of truth and righteousness more complete. “Surely the wrath of man shall praise Thee” (Psalm 76:10), the psalmist has testified. Through the courage of this one man who chose to follow right rather than policy, Satan was to be defeated, and the name of God was to be exalted and honored.” – Prophets and Kings, Page 543.3, Ellen G. White.
The prison experience resulted in Joseph being the second-highest person in Egypt after Pharaoh. This denotes that his prison was a perfect environment (Genesis 41). As an enslaved person in Egypt, he was in an ideal environment too. “He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all his substance: to bind his princes at his pleasure, and teach his senators wisdom.” Psalm 105:21, 22. From the dungeon Joseph was exalted to be ruler over all the land of Egypt.” – Patriarchs and Prophets, Page 222.1, Ellen G. White.
Many financially successful people today were driven by their poverty situation to become wealthy. The poverty they once faced was perfect for them when they encountered it. Many people with stupendous achievements might not have done much with their lives had they always been in comfort.
If Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had been born when there was no racism in America, he probably wouldn’t have influenced the millions of people he influenced through his struggle to end racism. He received worldwide recognition and popularity through his untiring activism and won the Nobel Prize. The challenging situation he faced was perfect.
God has placed you in a perfect environment, supplying you with all He knows you need and not what you think you need. What God wants for you is better than what you want for yourself.
Genesis 24:14 (KJV) – “And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: Let the same be she that thou has appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.”
When looking for a wife for Isaac, Eleazar only sought someone with good character. However, God gave him someone with good character and physical beauty (Genesis 24:16). After being placed in a perfect environment, Adam felt God had given him all he needed. He thought that he did not need anything more. However, God saw that it was not good for man to be alone and decided to create for him a helper (Genesis 2:18). Before sin, work was not wearisome; it was enjoyable. However, God saw that it was not good for man to work continuously for six days and decided to give him the seventh day of rest, the Sabbath.
Genesis 1:31 (KJV) – “And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good.”
God created a perfect environment. Sin tampered with that perfection. However, since God is always in control of the universe, He may allow His children to face dire situations. He does this to bring perfection out of imperfection.
Romans 8:28 (KJV) – “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.”
GOD BLESS YOU!
Prayer
Thank You Lord for the environment that You have currently placed me in. Please help me to use it for Your glory and for the blessing of Your people in the best possible way. In Jesus name, Amen.
Activity
Look Around & List
Take 10–15 minutes to sit quietly and reflect on your current life situation—your job, school, family, health, finances, or struggles.
- Write down 3 things about your current environment that feel imperfect, frustrating, or difficult.
Look Through God’s Eyes
Next to each “imperfect” item, write a possible way God might be using that very situation to strengthen your character, help others, or reveal His power. You can label this column: “How God Could Use This.”
Take One Step
Choose one of those “imperfections” and do one positive thing with it today:
- Encourage someone who may be in a similar situation.
- Pray specifically for God’s glory to be revealed through it.
- Look for an opportunity to serve, share, or learn within it.
