KEY TEXT: Genesis 22:15-18 (KJV) – “15 And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, 16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: 17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; 18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed My voice.”
God promised to multiply Abraham’s descendants because he was willing to give all that he had (his only son) to God. The key to multiplying anything God has provided you, is by giving it away to the honor and glory of God. Abraham did not withhold his only son from God. God proved his faithfulness when he passed the test of willingness to give Isaac as a sacrifice.
Hebrews 11:17 (KJV) – “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son.”
Abraham had great faith in God and decided to offer his only son Isaac, whom he had prayed to have for many years, as a sacrifice to God. From his personal experience with God, he had witnessed God’s faithful hand in all dealings. Therefore, he understood how good God is. He had passed through various challenges, as we all do, and God proved to be faithful in all these situations. When God called him, God didn’t tell him where he was going. He obeyed and left his family, friends, and country. As a result, God proved to be faithful by bestowing him abundant blessings. His faith in God grew stronger every day.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) – “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
God cannot allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear. When He allowed Satan to tempt Jesus in the wilderness to turn stones into bread when He was hungry due to fasting, He knew Jesus could handle that temptation. When He allowed Satan to test Job severely, He knew Job could withstand those tests. Both Jesus and Job came out of their various tests successfully. Therefore, God knew Abraham could bear that test when He tested Abraham to sacrifice Isaac.
God gave Adam and Eve a very simple test. God gave them numerous trees to eat from but withheld one tree from them. He made that test even simpler by putting it next to the Tree of Life so that in case they needed to eat while they were in the middle of the garden, they would have eaten from the Tree of Life and not from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you choose to eat poison because there is no food around, it can be excusable. However, when you choose to eat poison when there is plenty of food and next to that poison, there is food that guarantees you immortality (the tree of life), you have no excuse.
God always tries to ensure we have no excuse to sin. Sometimes, He may place a church near your home and a nightclub far away. Therefore, if you choose to go to a club, you won’t give an excuse that there is no suitable social place nearby. You may have Bibles in your homes that you can freely access, and that will be of infinite value to your life, but you go and buy magazines and books full of evil content. Hence, you waste money on things that corrupt your mind and degrade your life.
Most of the good things we need to thrive in this life are within our reach. Opportunities are often missed because we are not spiritually awake as we ought to be. If we allowed God to open our spiritual eyes, we would operate at lofty levels because we would see beyond the obvious.
Abraham’s journey with God made him spiritually stronger. In him was cultivated all the fruits of the Holy Spirit as He learned the value of living by every Word that proceeded from the mouth of God. He had learned that there is no loss in obeying God. Thus, when God commanded him to sacrifice Isaac, he did not delay. He rose early in the morning and did as God had told him. He may have felt slightly saddened, but he did not allow his feelings to overcome his faith.
Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) – “But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.”
Faith is like a door or a fence that separates you from your blessings. You need to open that door or jump over that fence. Without faith, it is impossible to please God because you will fail to access the blessings that God has in store for you.
God wants to bless you beyond your wildest imagination, but a lack of faith hinders you from accessing those blessings. Thus, robbing God of the opportunity to bless you as He wishes. It grieves Him when He gives you multiple chances to get His blessings, but you keep on missing them. If Abraham had disobeyed God and failed to act by faith in offering up Isaac, he would not have gotten the blessings he got. His willingness to give back what God had given him multiplied what he originally had. Even though he didn’t do it, God considered it done because of his motive.
Proverbs 11:24-25 (KJV) – “24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. 25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.”
The Bible gives an illustration of two people, one who gives and one who does not. The one who gives ends up profiting, while the one who withholds loses. It may be quite a difficult principle to comprehend because how can you increase by giving what you have? Logically and scientifically, giving reduces what you originally had. As Christians we need to place faith above the logic and science that we know.
Giving to the Devil will reduce what you have since Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). Giving to God increases what you have since God is the Creator. Therefore, He can multiply what you have given to Him. Not giving will also lead to scarcity. For example, if you have harvested bananas or any other crops to eat and you fail to eat them and you also fail to give them to your neighbor, they will eventually rot.
If you saved money in a bank thirty years ago and failed to use it, that money will be of little value now because its value has significantly reduced. If you took that money and bought land or invested it in any worthy scheme, you would increase your net worth. Now, giving back to God is the best investment of anything you have. We give back to God by giving to courses that advance His kingdom.
”Says the wise man, “There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth, and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.” Proverbs 11:24. And the same lesson is taught in the New Testament by the apostle Paul: “He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.” “God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:6, 8.” – Patriarchs and Prophets, Page 528, Ellen G. White.
If God has given you talent, give it back to Him by using it to advance His kingdom. Once you give it to Him, He will give it back to you in a more refined state, better than before. Most of the great musicians in the world, whether secular or gospel, started in church. Church refined their singing ability. Not just musicians but also great people in various fields have refined their capabilities by using them to serve God.
For many years, I used to ask God for public speaking skills and to enhance my ability to communicate via speech. In university, I joined the public speaking club. I looked for mentors online to teach me how to speak. I never got it until I joined the Children’s ministry in the church. It was through teaching children in church that I enhanced my speaking skills. I would have the right thoughts but find it difficult to assemble them and communicate them via speech. The more I teach or speak in church the better I become. God refines what you originally had. He asks you to give as a test of faith so that He can bless you with more.
If you want freedom of time, give your time to God. Being too busy with work or school that you barely have time for God or your family may make you money but will rob you of other essential things. You may make money which you may later use on counselors and other expensive programs to straighten your children’s behaviors.
A child that is constantly in the presence of both father and mother is likely to have more firm principles than one who is not. Sometimes, we may feel the need to work on Saturday because we want to earn that extra income. What we forget is success comes from God. Our success is dependent on God and not on our efforts. If it depended on effort, the construction workers and other laborers who work extremely hard would be the richest. Hard work is essential if it does not break God’s commandments. When you rest on Sabbath, God gives you fresh energy to push through the whole week. You will realize you have more power to work more than your colleagues who work seven days a week. The same happens when you give more time to God.
Before I started writing this article, I wanted to do some work, but I was feeling very sleepy and restless; I could not do it. I tried watching entertaining clips, but I still felt the same way. After I decided to write this article, I stopped feeling sleepy and started feeling refreshed, with a lot of energy to do more work. The key to multiplication is giving it to God. If you want more free time, make it a habit to give your time to God. If you want more money, give your money to God. Give your skills and talents to God if you want to enhance them. If you want better health, make your body useful in the service of God.
Malachi 3:10-11 (KJV) – “10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. 11And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.”
God promises that if you bring your tithes to Him, He will open the windows of heaven for you. He will pour you blessings that you shall not have enough room to store them. The blessings mentioned in this context are mainly monetary. This is because He says in verse 11 that He will hold the devourer for your sake and will not allow him to destroy the fruits of your ground. Some people make a lot of money, but immediately after they make it, problems arise that take away all the money. Therefore, some do not afford the things they wish to buy, while some barely meet their needs.
Some who are reading this and do not return their tithes can relate. Once they get their salary, they face attacks on their finances, for example, medical emergencies, essential electronics like phones and laptops get stolen or spoilt, their vehicles encounter problems, etc. Many who don’t return tithe cannot account for their finances.
Some confess they make a lot of money but don’t know where that money goes. This may be because you have opened the door of the devourer. When God has not provided a hedge around you, Satan will successfully fire his darts at you. When God removed the hedge He had placed on Job, the Devil attacked Job non-stop. One person could come and tell him of a calamity, and before he finished speaking, another would come to tell him of another calamity. Returning tithe provides a hedge around our finances.
A friend shared with me how he faces attacks on his finances. He told me he would open a new business then if something happened, he ended up making significant losses in those businesses. He told me many times deals would backfire at the last minute. Other times, he would make money but lose all he made, making him get into more and more debt. The Spirit of God prompted me immediately to ask him if he returns the tithe. I asked him; he confessed that he does not. I told him that is where the problem lies. Giving your money to God would multiply it and prevent attacks on your finances.
Luke 6:38 (KJV) – “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”
The Bible tells us that we shall get back in like manner according to the measure we have given. The Bible does not say whatever you have given; you will get back the same thing you have given. It says you will get back with the same measure you have given. This means you shouldn’t expect to be given if you have not given. If you have given half-heartedly, expect to be given half-heartedly. If you have given sacrificially, you will be given sacrificially as well. You may have given one dollar because that is all you had, and that is what you could afford.
Someone somewhere in the world may be willing to sacrifice one million dollars (or whatever amount) because that is what he can afford, and it ends up falling into your hands as a blessing of the one dollar you had given. You will get some of the blessings that God has for you immediately, others after many years, while others, your generation, will be the ones to enjoy them. All in all, God is always faithful; nothing you give to Him will go unrewarded, no matter how small it is.
Hebrews 13:16 (KJV) – “But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”
Mark 10:29-30 (KJV) – “29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, 30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.”
“Giving is a part of gospel religion. The foundation of the plan of salvation was laid in sacrifice. Jesus left the royal courts of Heaven, and became poor, that we through his poverty might be made rich. His life on earth was unselfish, marked with humiliation and sacrifice. And is the servant greater than his Lord? Shall men, partakers of the great salvation which He wrought out for them, refuse to follow their Lord, and to share in His self-denial? When the world’s Redeemer has suffered so much for us, shall we, the members of his body, live in thoughtless self-indulgence? No; self-denial is an essential condition of discipleship.” – The Signs of the Times, March 18, 1886, par. 2, Ellen G. White.
The key to multiplication is giving your all to God.

Identify One Area God Has Blessed You In
It could be your time, money, a talent (e.g., singing, writing, organizing), your business, or even physical strength.
Commit to Giving It Back to God
Example:
- If it’s time: Volunteer one hour to serve someone in need or help at church.
- If it’s money: Give a sacrificial offering or return your tithe faithfully.
- If it’s talent: Use your gift in ministry: write a devotional, sing in church, teach a Sabbath class, etc.
Pray Over It and Offer It to God
Say: “Lord, You gave this to me. I now return it to You for Your glory. Multiply it as You will.”
Record What Happens
At the end of the week, write a short reflection:
What did God do with what I gave? How did my giving grow my faith?
