FAITH IN GOD IS MOVING FORWARD NOT BACKWARD

Faith in God is moving forward,

Faith in someone or something else is moving backward,

Faith in God is choosing the right thing,

Faith in God is everything.

Faith in God means no looking back,

Faith in God is believing in God and not in luck,

Faith in God will shield you from the worst attack,

Faith in God is going forward; He will always have your back.

Faith in God means taking a bold step ahead,

Our bodies a living sacrifice from the toe to the head,

Faith in God is shown in love that never fades,

Faith in God is active service, like daily making the bed.

Going forward with God will always lift you up,

Going forward with God makes you never give up,

Going forward with God is the most curing syrup,

Going forward with God is like the sky that’s always up.

Hebrews 11:15-16 (KJV) – “15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. 16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for He hath prepared for them a city.”

God is not a God who forces. He is a God who gives us free will to choose whom to serve. Joshua 24:15 (KJV) – “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” God has given us the freedom to choose whom to serve.

Deuteronomy 30:19 (KJV) – “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.” God has given us freedom to choose between righteousness and evil, blessing and cursing. Some people think that you cannot choose to be blessed and that blessings and curses are always determined by luck or fate. Deuteronomy 28:1 gives us a condition and tells us that if we diligently hearken to God’s voice and obey all His commands, we shall surely be blessed. Therefore, it is possible to choose to be blessed. Unfortunately, many people choose curses.

We must make individual decisions from the depths of our hearts to serve God. Those heroes of faith in the Bible who chose to follow Christ had an opportunity to lose hope on their journey and go back, but they did not (Hebrews 11:15-16). Their journey was not always smooth. Nevertheless, they stuck to it wholeheartedly and carried on courageously amidst the trials.

One such example is Lot. The Bible records in Genesis 19:16 (AMP) – “Lot hesitated and lingered. The men took hold of his hand and the hand of his wife and the hands of his two daughters, because the Lord was merciful to him.” Lot hesitated and lingered because he wanted to remain in Sodom, a beautiful and fertile land. We are often reluctant to give our lives to Christ because sin seems attractive and pleasurable. As a result, we rob ourselves of beholding things that are more attractive and pleasurable.

Lot continued with the journey when the men took hold of his hand. God is willing to hold our hands at every step of the way. As a result, Lot was saved from destruction. 2 Peter 2:7-8 (KJV) – “And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)” The Bible calls Lot a righteous man. This means that Lot was saved from destruction and eternal death, which sinners will receive.

The angels did not only hold Lot’s hand; they also held his wife’s hand. While Lot was saved from destruction, his wife was not. His wife looked back when they were clearly commanded not to look back. As a result, she turned into a pillar of salt. When talking about looking back, the Bible says in Luke 17:31-32 (KJV) – “31 In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. 32 Remember Lot’s wife.” Faith in God focuses on what’s ahead and forgets what is behind. Faith in God means going forward with God and not looking back.

Various people in the Bible faced temptations. However, they did not allow the temptations to derail them and make them lose eternal life. They would sin today, ask God for forgiveness, and rely on God’s strength to keep going forward.

Exodus 20:8 (KJV) – “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”

The fourth commandment in Exodus 20:8 starts with the word remember. Christians should always remember to do everything right in God’s sight. When God said the word remember while issuing this command, He had in mind that human beings forget so quickly. We feel delighted to be in God’s presence when we go to church on Saturday or Sunday after the preacher has preached. We feel like we’ve been dipped in a sweet and comforting sea of holiness, and that feeling makes us think that we will no longer sin. After leaving church or after the Sabbath is over, we get into our regular daily duties, and it does not take long before we realize that we have fallen again into temptation.

Carrying your Bible to school or work and reading it every now and then will keep us in check and will enable us to remember what God requires us to do. Having God’s Word constantly on our minds will give us freedom over evil because it all starts in the mind. We tend to forget something or someone because of losing touch with that person or thing. If I take your contacts today and fail to reach out, I will easily forget you. If I take a pen or anything else, put it somewhere, and fail to access it for a long time, I may forget where I placed it.

However, it is challenging, if not impossible, to forget someone you keep on talking to daily. People forget many things, but very few forget their phones because they are constantly on their phones.

The Sabbath day is one day of the week, the Seventh, but the Sabbath principle applies daily. We should never forget God. We should always talk to God, not just when asking for something. We should have a habit of thanking God all the time. Thank God when you are trying to solve a problem and have found a solution. When you encounter a challenge, before you find a solution, thank God for allowing it to come to you because it is meant to make you better than you were before.

The same way, we can call a friend and say, “I was just calling to say hi to you.” It is the same thing we can do with God. My friend Moses once posted, “God is not someone to be afraid of; He is someone to be a friend of.” What I think he meant is God is not someone to timidly keep a distance from. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV) says, “Pray without ceasing.” We need to always be in communion with God by praying and studying God’s Word.

We should have a love for the Word of God. It is rare, and it should not be so, for Christians to study the Bible. Some say they do not read it because they do not understand. The more we read it, the more we will understand it, and the more we keep it away on the shelves, the more we will not understand it. It will be a profitable activity when you are somewhere waiting for something to take out your Bible and read, even if it is the Bible on your phone. When in a long queue waiting for the train or the bus or in the airport, it will be best to take out your Bible and read. This action will help keep your mind occupied and give the Devil no chance to attack you through an idle mind, as we all know the common saying, “An idle mind is the Devil’s workshop.”

“The profusion reigning everywhere gave birth to luxury and pride. Idleness and riches make the heart hard that has never been oppressed by want or burdened by sorrow. The love of pleasure was fostered by wealth and leisure, and the people gave themselves up to sensual indulgence. “Behold,” says the prophet, “this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before Me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.” Ezekiel 16:49, 50. There is nothing more desired among men than riches and leisure, and yet these gave birth to the sins that brought destruction upon the cities of the plain. Their useless, idle life made them a prey to Satan’s temptations, and they defaced the image of God, and became satanic rather than divine. Idleness is the greatest curse that can fall upon man, for vice and crime follow in its train. It enfeebles the mind, perverts the understanding, and debases the soul. Satan lies in ambush, ready to destroy those who are unguarded, whose leisure gives him opportunity to insinuate himself under some attractive disguise. He is never more successful than when he comes to men in their idle hours.” – Patriarchs and Prophets, Page 156.2, Ellen G. White.

If we refrain from idleness and put God at the top of our minds, we will always move forward and never backward. Philippians 2:13 (KJV) – “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.” When we surrender ourselves totally to God, the Holy Spirit will work in us. God will enable us to lose an interest in sin and to gain a love of righteousness, which will keep us moving forward because “Righteousness exalteth a nation (Proverbs 14:34, KJV).”

The Christian who has his eyes and his mind upward, always focusing on God, understands that there is something better than the best this world offers. Such a person has a vision for more incredible things that are not yet seen and does not put his focus on the lowly things that may seem great. Such is a man who is after God’s own heart. Such is a man of faith. Faith in God is moving forward with God, not backward.

GOD BLESS YOU!

Prayer

Dear God, help me to always move forward with you and prevent me from backsliding. Help me lose interest in those things that are pulling me backward. In Jesus name, Amen.

Activity

Take your time and list the things holding or pulling you back in your Christian life. Ask God to help you to lose interest in them.
