“Without faith, it’s impossible,” God says,
To please the Lord we can’t with our ways,
Have fear, have doubt and have the darkest days,
Mix faith and love and have the brightest rays.
For faith’s the spark, the unseen light,
It brightens us up, makes clear our sight,
Keep the faith, fight a good fight,
Win the battle, by faith you are great in might.
Like seeds that grow from hidden soil,
Faith blooms beyond the toughest wall,
Faith in God is power, ask Peter or Paul,
Faith in God the best remedy to body and soul.
Noah’s ark built with wood and nails,
While others scoffed at the flood-bound tales,
Yet with each hammer, each steady swing,
He pleased the Lord, his heart believing.
Think of Abraham, who went out of his way,
To the land that God led him, he never said nay,
Obeying God, not knowing where to stay,
God blessed him and He will bless you, have faith and pray.
“By faith,” they dared, like stars so bright,
Not by physical sight but inner light,
For faith’s the coin in heaven’s hand,
That pleases God, fulfills His plan,
So, live by faith, bold, unafraid,
Through valleys low and heights displayed.
Hebrews 11:6 (KJ21) – “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.”
The Bible tells us that it is impossible to please God without faith. This means that faith makes God happy, and lack of it disappoints God. God is delighted when we believe in Him, especially now that we cannot see Him. God wants to unite with us so that we can be able to do great and mighty things on this earth as He commanded us to in Genesis 1:28.
Genesis 1:28 (KJV) – “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
God called us to replenish the earth and subdue it. He gave Adam this command before he sinned. The word subdue means to conquer. If Adam had not sinned, he would have subdued the earth easily. Sin, which is a result of lack of faith, causes us to be mediocre in our endeavors. Therefore, the ordinary and the common become the order of the day. The very few people who show faith become the great ones in society and we look at them and marvel. God’s Word has principles that are as high as the heavens are from the earth. When we believe in it, the heights we are going to reach will be as unfathomable as heaven is from earth.
Hebrews 13:16 (NKJV) – “But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”
Being generous is righteousness, it is an act of faith, and it pleases God. Acts 20:35 (KJ21) – “I have shown you all things, how that so laboring ye ought to support the weak and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” The more you give the more blessed you become because God is a rewarder of those who have faith. Therefore, make it a habit to give sacrificially. When you do this continually, you will become more selfless and happier.
Genesis 13:14-17 (KJ21) – “14 And the Lord said unto Abram after Lot was separated from him, “Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward; 15 for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it and to thy seed forever. 16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth, so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. 17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it, for I will give it unto thee.”
Abraham pleased God when he portrayed selflessness by allowing his nephew Lot to choose first. God was well pleased. The Lord told him to look in all four directions of the compass, north, south, east and west and promised to give him the entire land including what was Lot’s. Abraham sacrificed his pleasure for the happiness of Lot. We should be willing to sacrifice our comfort for other people’s comfort.
The people who came up with remarkable inventions that have made the world a better place to live in sacrificed a lot of time to come up with those breathtaking inventions. Those who have built large corporations that have employed millions of people sacrificed time and resources to build them. The comfort we enjoy today is because of the sacrifices made by these great people.
Genesis 22:9-12 (KJ21) – “9 And they came to the place which God had told him of, and Abraham built an altar there and laid the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar upon the wood. 10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven and said, ‘Abraham, Abraham!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’ 12 And he said, ‘Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou anything unto him; for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son, from Me.’”
Genesis 22:16-18 (KJ21) – “16 And said, ‘By Myself have I sworn,’ saith the LORD, ‘for because thou hast done this thing and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son, 17 that in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is upon the seashore. And thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies, 18 and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because thou hast obeyed My voice.’”
God gave Abraham a son called Isaac after waiting for many years. God called Abraham at the age of seventy-five and gave him Isaac at the age of one hundred. God tested Abraham’s faith by telling him to sacrifice his only begotten son Isaac, the son of faith. Abraham agreed to God’s command, and he did not withhold Isaac from God. He understood that it is God who gives, and He has the right to take away whatever He has given. This act of faith pleased God and God promised to multiply his seed as the stars of heaven and as the sand which is upon the seashore. He also promised to bless all the nations of the world through him.
1 Chronicles 4:9-10 (KJ21) – “9 And Jabez was more honorable than his brethren; and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, ‘Because I bore him with sorrow.’ 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, ‘Oh that Thou wouldest bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Thine hand might be with me, and that Thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!’ And God granted him that which he requested.”
Jabez pleased God when he asked God for exactly what he wanted. He asked God to enlarge his border and for God’s hand to always be with him. He asked God to keep him from evil that it may not grieve him. Whatever he asked God for was in accordance with God’s will. God desires to enlarge your territory because He has commanded us to replenish and subdue the earth (Genesis 1:28). God wants to always offer us His hand of protection. God desires to keep us from evil that is why He is always advocating for righteousness. The prayer of Jabez was a prayer of faith and it pleased God.
Daniel 6:1-3 (KJ21) – “1 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom a hundred and twenty princes, who should be over the whole kingdom; 2 and over these three presidents, of whom Daniel was first, that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage. 3 Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.”
Daniel was excellent even when he was in captivity. He was excellent in the kingdom of Babylon and in the kingdom of Medo-Persia as well. His excellent character pleased God and King Nebuchadnezzar. King Nebuchadnezzar went ahead and promoted him (Daniel 2:48). His excellent Character pleased King Darius as well and he was the most preferred among the three presidents. Being excellent in the things you do is an act of faith because God is an excellent God, and it pleases God.
Ecclesiastes 9:10 (AMP) – “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no activity or planning or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead), where you are going.”
1 Kings 3:4-14 (KJ21) – “4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. A thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar. 5 In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask what I shall give thee.” 6 And Solomon said, “Thou hast shown unto Thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before Thee in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with Thee; and Thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that Thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7 And now, O Lord my God, Thou hast made Thy servant king instead of David my father. And I am but a little child; I know not how to go out or come in. 8 And Thy servant is in the midst of Thy people whom Thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. 9 Give therefore Thy servant an understanding heart to judge Thy people, that I may discern between good and bad; for who is able to judge this Thy so great a people?” 10 And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. 11 And God said unto him, “Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life, neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment, 12 behold, I have done according to thy words. Lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart, so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. 13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and honor, so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days. 14 And if thou wilt walk in My ways to keep My statutes and My commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.”
Solomon pleased God by taking his precious time to offer such a huge sacrifice to God. The sacrifice he made was great and it took a considerable amount of time to burn it. After offering this sacrifice, God appeared to him in a dream and asked him what he wanted. Solomon did not ask for money or the life of his enemies. Instead, he asked for an understanding heart so that he may be able to rule the people that God has given him to lead better.
God was pleased with this request of faith and gave him a wise and understanding heart. He added to him great riches as well, there was no one as rich as him. God also promised to lengthen his days if he would keep His commandments.
Hebrews 11:31 (KJ21) – “By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with those who believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.”
Even though she was a prostitute, Rahab pleased God when she received the spies with peace and hid them. She did not perish with the other unbelievers in her city because of this act of faith. God always rewards faith. It doesn’t matter who has acted by faith. If an unbeliever moves by faith and does something righteous, God will surely reward it.
Matthew 3:17 (KJ21) – “And lo, a voice from Heaven, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’”
Jesus was the epitome of a life of faith when He was on this earth. He showed faith in God in everything He did. He walked in humility and was humble unto death, even the most humiliating and painful death on the cross (Philippians 2:8). He lived a life of full-time service to others. Therefore, God the father was pleased. What did God do to Him? Philippians 2:9-11 (KJV) – “9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
“Without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). There are many in the Christian world who claim that all that is necessary to salvation is to have faith; works are nothing, faith is the only essential. But God’s Word tells us that faith without works is dead, being alone. Many refuse to obey God’s commandments, yet they make a great deal of faith. But faith must have a foundation.” – Faith and Works, Page 47.1, Ellen G. White.
“God’s promises are all made upon conditions. If we do His will, if we walk in truth, then we may ask what we will, and it shall be done unto us. While we earnestly endeavor to be obedient, God will hear our petitions; but He will not bless us in disobedience. If we choose to disobey His commandments, we may cry, “Faith, faith, only have faith,” and the response will come back from the sure Word of God, “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:20). Such faith will only be as sounding brass and as a tinkling cymbal. In order to have the benefits of God’s grace we must do our part; we must faithfully work and bring forth fruits meet for repentance.” – Faith and Works, Page 47.2, Ellen G. White.
What is that one thing that is blocking you from receiving God’s promises? Is it doing your own work on the Sabbath day?
Faith in God pleased God. If you want to please God, have faith.
GOD BLESS YOU!
Prayer
Dear God, I thank you for this beautiful day. Please help me to have the motive of pleasing You in everything that I do. Help me to always have faith. You have promised that you are a rewarder of those who show faith in You. Please bless me in the areas where I have shown faith. In Jesus name, Amen.
