KEY TEXT: Joshua 10:11 (AMP) – “As they fled before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth-horon, the Lord threw down large stones [of hail] from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. More [Amorites] died because of the hailstones than those whom the sons of Israel killed with the sword.”
The hailstones killed more Amorites than the Israelites killed with the sword.
Who brought those hailstones?
It was the Creator of the hailstones, the Lord God Himself, who caused them to rain from heaven.
1 Chronicles 29:11 (AMP) – “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and on the earth; Yours is the dominion and kingdom, O Lord, and You exalt Yourself as head over all.”
Greatness comes from God because it belongs to God. Power (even the one that Satan has) comes from God, and it belongs to God. Glory comes from God, and it belongs to God. Victory comes from God, and it belongs to God. Majesty comes from God, and it belongs to God.
God is head over all. God is above all greatness. God is above all power. God is above all glory. God is above all victory. God is above all majesty.
Let us focus on victory.
The Hebrew word for victory is Netzach, which means endurance, eternal triumph, forever victory. The root meaning carries enduring success or unstoppable persistence.
God’s victory is eternal.
The hailstones killed more people than the ones the Israelites killed. God did more for the Israelites in their battle against the Amorites than they did for themselves. He sent them to battle with the Amorites. When God sent them, the Israelites probably thought that it was their own effort that was going to make them victorious. They thought that they would have to fight the entire battle by themselves for them to win. God proved them wrong by doing more for them than they were able to do for themselves.
If God knew He would do this, why then did He send them to battle? Why didn’t He allow them to sleep at home and fight for them while they were sleeping at home?
God can do everything without us, but He does not want spectators; He wants servants and soldiers. God fights for us when we show up in faith. The Sabbath reminds us that victory does not come by our strength, but by God’s power working while we rest in His promises. Just as He fought for Israel, He fights for all who trust and obey Him.
“While Christ is cleansing the sanctuary, the worshipers on earth should carefully review their life, and compare their character with the standard of righteousness. As they see their defects, they should seek the aid of the Spirit of God to enable them to have moral strength to resist the temptations of Satan, and to reach the perfection of the standard. They may be victors over the very temptations which seemed too strong for humanity to bear; for the divine power will be combined with their human effort, and Satan cannot overcome them.” – Reflecting Christ, Page 296, Ellen G. White.
God can do for us all that He wants to do for us, but He wants us to partner with Him for our own happiness.
When one does something for someone without that person doing anything, they will most likely be unable to appreciate what has been done. That is why some children rarely appreciate their parents and are so entitled, because everything is being done for them. That’s why sometimes the people you do the most for end up backstabbing you.
When God invites us to work with Him and we gain victory, we gain more courage and faith. We gain more love for God and for our fellow human beings. God gives us the privilege of working together with Him so that we can be part and parcel of the victory. God allows us to share in His greatness, His glory, His victory, and His majesty through His power working in us, through us, and for us (Ephesians 3:20–21, Philippians 2:13).
Even great people in history, whether they acknowledged God or not, received their greatness from Him. God in His generosity and selflessness allows humans to be called “great,” even though He is the true source of all greatness (Daniel 2:20–21, James 1:17).
God is calling you out today to show up and step out in faith. He will do more for you than you can do for yourself.
GOD BLESS YOU!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Thank You for reminding me that victory belongs to You. Teach me to show up in faith, to trust that You will fight my battles in ways beyond my strength or understanding. Help me to partner with You daily, to work with Your Spirit, and to glorify You in every triumph. May Your power, glory, and majesty shine through my life. In Yahshua’s name, Amen.
Activity
Step Out in Faith: This week, identify one area in your life where fear or doubt has kept you from acting.
Pray over it, then take one faith step forward—apply for that opportunity, start that project, reach out to that person, or begin that discipline.
As you move, trust God to do what only He can do—to send the “hailstones” of His divine help and bring you victory.
