KEY TEXT: Proverbs 25:2 (KJV) – ^“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.”

God is glorified when He conceals something. Human beings receive honor/glory when searching for the thing God has concealed. God conceals treasures of infinite value in His creation. All created things have deep spiritual lessons about God. The beauty of it is that He does not hide His creation; we interact with it daily in our various environments.

We see trees, flowers, plants, insects, animals, rocks, mountains, etc. It is a highly profitable activity when we take time to study nature. Likewise, it is highly lucrative when we take time to socialize with each other because every human being placed on earth has the value that God has placed in them.

How did God’s creation come into existence?

Psalm 33:6,9 (KJV) – “⁶ By the Word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. ⁹ For He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.”

Hebrews 11:3 (KJV) – “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”

God created everything by His Word. His Word called everything into existence.

John 1:1-3 (KJV) – “¹ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ² The same was in the beginning with God. ³ All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made.”

All creation offers priceless lessons about God, but God’s Word provides the greatest lessons about God because God’s Word created everything.

Matthew 24:35 (KJV) – “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

God’s Word can create, destroy and recreate. It is more permanent than Heaven and Earth. The beauty of this powerful Word is that we have access to it through the Bible. The Bible has been made widely accessible in most areas of the world. One can read it online if one cannot afford a physical copy. The Bible contains all lessons one needs to succeed in all life areas. Lessons fundamental to success in human relations, marriage, family, career, education, health, and business, among others, are found in the Bible. The key to character development and inheriting eternal life is also in the Bible.

Some of these lessons are openly written, while others are hidden. Therefore, it may require a little bit of effort to be able to grasp certain hidden themes and hidden meanings. Much value will be attained if the Bible student spends time studying the Word of God and not merely brushing through it.

With additional knowledge and wisdom, one receives great joy and peace once they successfully uncover a hidden truth from the pages of the Bible. If these lessons are applied, a person’s mind functions at a higher level as it attempts to meet the mind of God, which is as high as heaven is from earth (Isaiah 55:8-9).

Studying and obeying God’s Word increases one’s intelligence and emotional quotient. It heightens an individual’s reasoning capacity and improves that person’s memory, too (especially if they take time to memorize scriptures). Once a person’s brain power is increased, the likelihood of success increases. If they apply the lessons they have learned, they are assured of success in this life and in the life to come. As a result, they get honored and impact people greatly.

The great men and women of society are honored (even though not all of them were Christians) because they did at least one thing that was in accordance with God’s Word. Nelson Mandela, among other African freedom fighters, selflessly fought for freedom. They were tortured and jailed because they considered others better than themselves. The good and righteous things they did aligned with God’s Word.

The Bible says in Philippians 2:3 (KJV) – “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.”

In their struggles, some of them died but are still remembered and honored to this date. Buddha and Confucius taught some things that align with the Word of God.

Buddha said, “Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they already have.” That teaching is in accordance with the Bible because the Bible teaches gratitude. The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (KJV) – “¹⁶ Rejoice evermore. ¹⁷ Pray without ceasing. ¹⁸ In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Confucius said, “He who flatters a man is his enemy; he who tells him of his faults is his maker.” This teaching is in line with the Bible. The Bible says in Proverbs 29:5 (KJV) – “A man that flattereth his neighbor spreadeth a net for his feet.” Dr. Martin Luther King is well known for fighting against segregation and racism. That teaching is in line with the Word of God because the Word of God constantly preaches peace and unity.

As Christians, we are highly advantaged because we have the Bible, which has divine truth. No matter how good they sound, teachings from human beings are not void of corruption. Teachings from God are pure and incorruptible. They contain no malice.

Every Word in the Bible is meant for our good. The problem is that we are reluctant to obey because we don’t see sense in obedience. We don’t see how not lying and not being corrupt in our businesses will make our businesses succeed. We don’t see how keeping the true seventh-day Sabbath (Saturday) is going to be beneficial in our lives. If we obey God fully without questioning, we will experience all the blessings we have been missing through disobedience.

“The Bible contains all the principles that men need to understand in order to be fitted either for this life or for the life to come. And these principles may be understood by all. No one with a spirit to appreciate its teaching can read a single passage from the Bible without gaining from it some helpful thought. But the most valuable teaching of the Bible is not to be gained by occasional or disconnected study. Its great system of truth is not so presented as to be discerned by the hasty or careless reader. Many of its treasures lie far beneath the surface, and can be obtained only by diligent research and continuous effort. The truths that go to make up the great whole must be searched out and gathered up, “here a little, and there a little.” Isaiah 28:10.” – Education, Page 123.2, Ellen G. White.

To safeguard against misinterpretation of the Bible, we ought to understand the context of each text we read. We are to look for similar verses when studying God’s Word. When studying a particular topic or theme, we should use the law of first mention, whereby we start from where that topic is first mentioned.

Matthew 19:3-6 (KJV) – “³ The Pharisees also came unto Him, tempting Him, and saying unto Him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? ⁴ And He answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female, ⁵ And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? ⁶ Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”

The Pharisees asked Jesus a question concerning marriage. Jesus took them to the beginning, where marriage was first mentioned.

When reading the Bible, we should have a notebook and a pen each time we study it. Once you have read a verse, write it down. This will make memorizing it easier. It will also clarify what we have read because writing aids in clarifying. As we meditate on it, we should search other verses and books, writing down the resulting thoughts. Some people ask me how I write Christian articles. That is the method I use. Those lessons you have learned will be more engraved in your mind than if you had merely read them. Afterward, sharing what you have learned with at least one person would be best.

Teaching enables one to retain the knowledge they have gained. Secondly, it gives one the privilege of blessing other people. John C. Maxwell says, “No one gets rich without enriching others.” As you impart blessings to people, blessings are imparted back to you. You can become spiritually stronger when you teach than when you don’t. Secondly, when you teach, people ask questions or give comments. As a result, your knowledge increases, giving you solutions to various life problems.

“When thus searched out and brought together, they will be found to be perfectly fitted to one another. Each Gospel is a supplement to the others, every prophecy an explanation of another, every truth a development of some other truth. The types of the Jewish economy are made plain by the Gospel. Every principle in the Word of God has its place, every fact its bearing. And the complete structure, in design and execution, bears testimony to its Author. Such a structure no mind but that of the Infinite could conceive or fashion.” – Education, Page 123.3, Ellen G. White.

“In searching out the various parts and studying their relationship, the highest faculties of the human mind are called into intense activity. No one can engage in such study without developing mental power.”- Education, Page 124.1, Ellen G. White.

Jeremiah 29:13-14 (KJV) – “¹³ And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart. ¹⁴ And I will be found of you, saith the Lord: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.”

We shall find God if we seek Him wholeheartedly, and the best place to search for Him is in His word.

Dear God, Thank You for Your Word. Please help me to love Your Word. Help me to study Your word diligently, to understand it and to obey it faithfully.
