STILLNESS BEFORE THE MIRACLE

KEY TEXT: Joshua 3:8 (AMP) – “You shall command the priests who carry the ark of the covenant, saying, ‘When you come to the edge of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still
in the Jordan.’”

The Jordan was a major obstacle they had to face to enter the Promised Land. God told them that when they reached the Jordan, they should stand still in the Jordan. In other words, when you encounter obstacles, you should not fear or worry because of those obstacles. Instead, you should wait for the salvation of the Almighty God.

Psalm 23:4 (AMP) – “Even though I walk through the [sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort and console me.”

As children of God, we shall encounter dark valleys in this sinful world. No matter what we experience, we need to have the assurance in our hearts that the Omnipotent One is with us.

Joshua 3:10 (AMP) – “Joshua said, ‘By this you shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will, without fail, drive out from before you the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, and the Jebusite.’”

When you stand still in the midst of your obstacles and put the Word of God ahead of you, God will give you an experience that enables you to know that He is among you. You will know that He is right there with you when you remain still in your obstacles.

The Sabbath rest is a way of staying still in your obstacles. It is an acknowledgment that God is in charge of everything and that He will help you overcome all things. When you do not stay still, you will drown in the Jordan River. When you do not rest on the Sabbath, you will drown in your problems. But when you stand still and rest on the Sabbath, your problems will be parted from you just as the Jordan River was parted, and you will walk on dry ground towards the Promised Land. Thus, without fail, God will drive away every force that opposes you.

“Christians should be the most cheerful and happy people that live.” – From the Heart, Page 137.2, Ellen G. White.

GOD BLESS YOU!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, teach me to stand still when I face obstacles. Help me to trust You fully and to rest in Your presence, knowing that You are with me and that You will make a way where there seems to be none. Strengthen my faith as I wait for Your salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Activity

Today, identify one “Jordan” in your life, an obstacle that feels overwhelming. Write it down, then write one promise from God’s Word beside it. Take a few moments in prayer to surrender that obstacle to God.
