Colossians 3:17 (AMP) – “Whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus [and in dependence on Him], giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
When you speak, speak in the name of Jesus. When you write, write in the name of Jesus. When you walk, walk in the name of Jesus. When you run, run in the name of Jesus (1 Corinthians 9:24). When you eat and drink, eat and drink in the name of Jesus (1 Corinthians 10:31). When you read and study, do so in the name of Jesus. When you interact and socialize, do so in the name of Jesus.
What does the Bible say about the name of Jesus?
Philippians 2:9-10 (AMP) – “9 For this reason also [because He obeyed and so completely humbled Himself], God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow [in submission], of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth.”
The name of Jesus is above every name in the universe. Therefore, when you do things in the name of Jesus, you will be able to do them in the highest possible way, since the name of Jesus is above every other name. When you speak in the name of Jesus, you will give your best speech, because the name of Jesus is above every other name.
Philippians 2:10 (KJV) – “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth.”
Every knee bows at the name of Jesus, including all demons and Satan, their leader. All opposing forces bow at the name of Jesus. Therefore, when you do things in the name of Jesus, no opposing force will prevail against you, because at the name of Jesus every knee bows.
When the cruel opposers of Jesus Christ crucified Him, they thought they had won. Jesus proved them wrong when He rose from the dead on the third day, just as He had foretold, triumphing over death by the power of God (Matthew 16:21; Luke 24:6–7; John 2:19–21; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4, KJ21).
The worst thing someone can do to you is to kill you. Jesus Christ proved His greatness by rising from the worst thing that was done to Him by people. When you do things in the name of Jesus, nothing will intimidate you. Therefore, you will be able to do whatever you are doing with full confidence. When you do things in the name of Jesus, your efforts will be fruitful.
What are some of the names of Jesus?
- Wonderful Counselor (Isaiah 9:6) — Seek the counsel of Jesus in all that you speak and do. John 1:1 and John 1:14 show us that Jesus is the Word made flesh. Therefore, seek Jesus’ counsel through His Word.
- Bread of Life (John 6:35) — Jesus provides what you need at every step of your life. Trust in Him. Ask Him to show you how to use what He has already provided to bless those within your reach at your current stage.
- The Light of the World (John 8:12) — Jesus is the Light. Ask Him to give you understanding in complex matters that are difficult to comprehend.
- The Door (John 10:9) — Jesus is the access point to God’s provision and opportunities. Ask Him to open doors that no human effort can open.
- Savior and Redeemer (Isaiah 43:11; Titus 2:13–14) — Ask Jesus continually to save, restore, and redeem every area of your life.
1 Corinthians 3:11 (KJ21) – “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
“Upon this rock,” said Jesus, “I will build My church.” In the presence of God, and all the heavenly intelligences, in the presence of the unseen army of hell, Christ founded His church upon the living Rock. That Rock is Himself,—His own body, for us broken and bruised. Against the church built upon this foundation, the gates of hell shall not prevail.” – The Desire of Ages, Page 413.2, Ellen G. White.
When you do things in the name of Jesus, you place whatever you are doing on the strongest foundation.
How do you do things in the name of Jesus?
You do things in the name of Jesus by truly believing in Him. You demonstrate your belief in Jesus by obeying what He says; in doing so, you grow closer to Him. When you call someone you do not know, you are unsure whether they will respond. However, when you call a close friend—or someone with whom you have a strong relationship—you are confident that they will respond.
When you do things in the name of Jesus, you should do them with humility. The name of Jesus was exalted above every other name as a result of His humility (Philippians 2:8–10).
When doing things in the name of Jesus, you should also do them in total obedience to His Word. For example, when someone works on Saturday and keeps Sunday as the Sabbath, it is not in accordance with His Word, because the Sabbath is Saturday, the seventh day.
“We build on Christ by obeying His word. It is not he who merely enjoys righteousness, that is righteous, but he who does righteousness. Holiness is not rapture; it is the result of surrendering all to God; it is doing the will of our heavenly Father. When the children of Israel were encamped on the borders of the Promised Land, it was not enough for them to have a knowledge of Canaan, or to sing the songs of Canaan. This alone would not bring them into possession of the vineyards and olive groves of the goodly land. They could make it theirs in truth only by occupation, by complying with the conditions, by exercising living faith in God, by appropriating His promises to themselves, while they obeyed His instruction.” – Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing, Ellen G. White.
Acts 3:6 (KJ21) – “Then Peter said, ‘Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.’”
Peter and John made a lame man walk in the name of Jesus. In other words, they performed miracles—wonderful works—in the name of Jesus. The sons of Sceva attempted to cast out demons in the name of Jesus, but it failed because they did not have a true relationship with Jesus Christ (Acts 19:13–16).
For you to have a relationship with Jesus, you need to draw close to Him. The closer you draw to Jesus, the more confident you will be that He will respond to you. The closer you draw to Him, the stronger your belief will become in Him and in the power that the mighty name of Jesus carries.
GOD BLESS YOU!
