Mark 6:5-6 (KJV) – “⁵ And He could there do no mighty work, save that He laid His hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. ⁶ And He marvelled because of their unbelief. And He went round about the villages, teaching.”

The original Greek word used for “mighty” is dýnamin (from dýnamis), which is the root of the English word dynamite.

Dýnamin means power, supernatural ability, miraculous force, and inherent strength that produces results. It refers to explosive divine power in action. Jesus Christ is omnipotent. Power is always in Him. The Bible records many miracles that Jesus performed while He was on earth, most of which He did on the Sabbath day. The Sabbath day is a day of miracles. Keep it holy.

The Scripture says in the Gospel of John 21:25 (KJ21) – “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.”

This shows that Jesus performed countless miracles that were never recorded in Scripture. During His three-year ministry, Jesus did many powerful works. Because of this, one might assume that Jesus performed miracles everywhere He went at all times. However, the Bible records a different reality.

In His own hometown, miracles were limited because of unbelief.

The people said:

“Is not this the carpenter…?” — Mark 6:3 (KJV)

Because they despised and rejected Him, Jesus did not perform many mighty works there. Still, in His mercy, He healed a few sick people. Many people today ask why we do not see miracles like those in the time of Jesus. Yet even when Jesus walked the earth, some places — including His hometown — rarely witnessed miracles. The reason was unbelief. Unbelief restricts the flow of God’s power.

Often, we trust other things more than God:

We believe in people more than God.

We believe in ourselves more than God.

We believe in our intelligence more than God.

We believe in our skills and talents more than God.

We believe in our effort more than God.

We believe in money more than God.

But Scripture reminds us:

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” — Psalm 20:7 (KJ21)

When people despise God, He still shows mercy. He keeps many unbelievers alive, provides for them, and protects them. But the fullness of His mighty works is often withheld because of unbelief.

Jesus Himself said:

“According to your faith be it unto you.” — Matthew 9:29 (KJ21)

Therefore, we should embrace God fully and believe in His power.

The Bible declares in the Gospel of Luke 1:37 (KJ21):

“For with God nothing shall be impossible.”

And also:

“All things are possible to him that believeth.”

— Mark 9:23 (KJ21)

Faith opens the door to God’s mighty power. Unbelief closes it.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Forgive me for every trace of unbelief in my heart. I choose to trust Your power above what I see or understand. Help me to walk by faith and not by doubt. Open my life to Your mighty works, and teach me to depend fully on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Activity

For the next 3 days:

1. Write down one area where you have been doubting God (health, finances, direction, or relationships).
2. Find one Bible promise about God’s power and read it aloud each day (for example, Luke 1:37 or Mark 9:23).
3. Each time doubt comes, say out loud:
   “I believe God’s power is working in my life.”

Reflection question:
Is my faith opening the door for God’s power, or is unbelief closing it?
