THE BLESSING IN LETTING GO

KEY TEXT: Luke 6:34-35 (KJV) – “³⁴ And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? For sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. ³⁵ But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.”

Your reward will be greater when you lend without expecting anything in return. When someone borrows from you, especially a person who cannot repay what they have borrowed, that person is giving you an opportunity to be greatly blessed.

When that person fails to say thank you, or even does something wrong to you in return, they have blessed you even more.

Luke 6:38 (KJV) – “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”

“Every seed sown produces a harvest of its kind. So it is in human life. We all need to sow the seeds of compassion, sympathy, and love; for we shall reap what we sow. Every characteristic of selfishness, self-love, self-esteem, every act of self-indulgence, will bring forth a like harvest. He who lives for self is sowing to the flesh, and of the flesh he will reap corruption.” – Christ Object Lessons, Ellen G. White.

When you give with all your heart, God will bring people into your life who will give back to you with all their hearts. It may not be the same people to whom you have given — it may be others instead. Therefore, ensure you emit value to the world daily, especially value that is priceless. If you do that, priceless value will return to you.

Teaching and sharing God’s Word with others is priceless. It is the greatest form of giving because it impacts not only a person’s present life but also their eternal destiny.

“God destroys no man. Everyone who is destroyed will have destroyed himself. Everyone who stifles the admonitions of conscience is sowing the seeds of unbelief, and these will produce a sure harvest. By rejecting [p. 85] the first warning from God, Pharaoh of old sowed the seeds of obstinacy, and he reaped obstinacy. God did not compel him to disbelieve. The seed of unbelief which he sowed produced a harvest of its kind. Thus his resistance continued, until he looked upon his devastated land, upon the cold, dead form of his first-born, and the first-born of all in his house and of all the families in his kingdom, until the waters of the sea closed over his horses and his chariots and his men of war. His history is a fearful illustration of the truth of the words that “whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” Gal. 6:7. Did men but realize this, they would be careful what seed they sow.” – Christ Object Lessons, Ellen G. White.

“As the seed sown produces a harvest, and this in turn is sown, the harvest is multiplied. In our relation to others, this law holds true. Every act, every word, is a seed that will bear fruit. Every deed of thoughtful kindness, of obedience, or of self-denial, will reproduce itself in others, and through them in still others. So every act of envy, malice, or dissension is a seed that will spring up in a “root of bitterness” (Heb. 12:15), whereby many shall be defiled. And how much larger number will the “many” poison. Thus the sowing of good and evil goes on for time and for eternity.” – Christ Object Lessons, Ellen G. White.

The Bible reminds us in the Book of Proverbs 11:25 (KJV) – “The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.”

When you refresh others through love, generosity, and truth, God Himself refreshes you in ways you may not immediately see.

God also promises that no act of kindness goes unnoticed. Jesus said in the Gospel of Matthew 10:42 (KJV) – “And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.”

If God rewards even a cup of water given in love, how much more will He reward a life lived in generosity?

Sometimes giving feels like a loss in the moment, but in God’s kingdom, it is always an investment. The Sabbath teaches us to let go of striving and trust God as our reward, just as generosity teaches us to give without expecting return. Rest and giving are both acts of faith in God’s provision.

The Bible says in the Second Epistle to the Corinthians 9:6 (KJV) – “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”

Every act of kindness is a seed. Every sacrifice is a sowing. And every seed has a harvest appointed by God.

God is not unjust to forget what you do for others. Scripture assures us in the Epistle to the Hebrews 6:10 (KJV) – “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”

Even when people forget, God remembers.
Even when appreciation is absent, heaven records it.

Therefore, never grow weary of doing good.

The Bible encourages us in the Epistle to the Galatians 6:9 (KJV) – “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Your season of harvest will surely come.

When you give without expecting anything in return, you begin to live like your Father in heaven, who is kind even to the unthankful and the evil. You reflect His heart, and you position yourself for great reward both on earth and in eternity.

Giving is never a loss in God’s kingdom.
Giving is promotion.
Giving is multiplication.
Giving is a divine investment.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your generous heart toward me. Teach me to give freely, love selflessly, and lend without expecting anything in return. Remove every selfish motive from my heart and help me to reflect Your kindness even to those who do not appreciate it. I trust You to be my reward and my provider. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

2. Do it without telling anyone and without expecting thanks.
3. Pray afterward and thank God for the opportunity to give.

Reflection question:
Can I trust God enough to give even when no one notices or appreciates it?
