YOU ARE BOUGHT WITH A PRICE

KEY TEXT: 1 Corinthians 7:23 (KJV) – “Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.”

“You are bought with a price” means that you have value. You are not valueless.

Your value is not random. It is not self-assigned. It is not determined by society.

God placed that value on you because He created you. He knows and understands your worth better than anyone else ever could. God understands your value more than you understand it.

But how much is the cost of you?

To determine your cost, look at the price Jesus Christ paid.

God did not redeem you with silver.
He did not redeem you with gold.

1 Peter 1:18-19 (KJV) – “¹⁸ Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; ¹⁹ But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

The life of Jesus Christ was the price.

That truth should shape how you see yourself. Not with pride. Not with arrogance. But with a holy awareness of redeemed worth.

1 Corinthians 6:20 (KJV) – “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Because you were bought, you belong to God.

Remember the Price

When you look at anyone, no matter how broken or messed up they may seem, remember the price that was paid for them.

When you are tempted to fornicate with someone, remember the price used to purchase that person.

When one is thinking of aborting a baby, they should remember the price that Jesus Christ paid for that baby, no matter how small. They should think the same even before engaging in sex outside marriage. Men should think the same before wasting their precious seed in premarital and extramarital affairs and in masturbation.

This is not about condemnation.
This is about value.

When something is priceless, you do not treat it cheaply.

Redeemed Means Bought Back

Redeemed means bought back, rescued, or set free by paying a price.

Silver and gold are extremely valuable in the eyes of the world. Entire economies revolve around them.

Nations hold gold reserves in their central banks. These reserves serve as a store of value, a hedge against inflation, and a foundation of financial stability. In times of economic crisis, gold reserves reassure citizens and investors that something solid stands behind the currency.

When uncertainty increases, governments accumulate more gold because gold is considered secure.

Yet Scripture says silver and gold were not enough to redeem you.

If the very metal that stabilizes world economies is still too cheap to purchase a human soul, then your value cannot be measured financially.

You were not secured by assets.
You were not guaranteed by commodities.
You were not backed by gold reserves.

You were backed by the precious blood of Christ.

Not just blood, but the blood of Christ.

Not just sacrifice, but the Son of God.

And that changes everything.

Do Not Measure Yourself by Earthly Things

It is an insult to yourself and to God when you measure yourself by the designer clothes you wear, the designer shoes you own, or the bag you carry.

It is an insult when you measure yourself by “expensive” mansions in “expensive” neighborhoods.

It is an insult when you measure yourself by expensive cars.

It is an insult when you measure yourself by a Fortune 500 company you own or by your accomplishments.

None of these purchased you.

The blood of Christ did.

Selling What God Purchased

How can someone take the body that was bought at such an infinite cost and sell it for money through prostitution?

Some think they are wise because they sell themselves at higher prices than others. But no amount of money equals the price that was already paid.

Satan would have us believe we are less worthy than we are. Many think lowly of themselves, even when pretending to think highly.

If you were bought with a price, no amount of money can redeem you. No amount of good works can redeem you. You cannot bribe God with wealth. You cannot bribe Him with performance.

Redemption was not earned. It was purchased.

Be Not the Servants of Men

It is good to respect hard work and achievement. But when we think someone is better than us because of academic or financial success, we forget the price that redeemed us.

When we think someone is lower than us because they have achieved less, we forget the same price was paid for them.

1 Corinthians 7:23 (KJV) – “Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.”

No person can put a price tag on you. Do not allow it.

Someone’s degraded view of your value does not determine your value.

You may be in an abusive relationship thinking you deserve nothing better. You are wrong.

You may be rejected and think you cannot find better. You are wrong.

You may cling to a toxic workplace, breaking godly principles to please a boss, thinking you cannot do better. You are wrong.

The One who bought you determines your worth.

Sabbath and Trust

When we work on the Sabbath for extra income, we reveal that we do not fully understand the price paid for us.

If God spared not His own Son to redeem you, will He not provide for you?

Romans 8:32 (KJV) – “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”

You do not have to disobey God to survive.

The same God who redeemed you can sustain you.

Sabbath observance becomes an act of trust. It declares:

My security is not in gold.
My stability is not in reserves.
My provision is not in economic systems.

My security is in the precious blood of Christ.

Remember Who You Are

The prodigal son left his father and wasted everything. He became a servant in a foreign land, sleeping among pigs and longing for their food.

Then he remembered who he was.

He remembered he had once been a son.

When he came to himself, he returned to his father.

When we come to our right senses, we remember the price that was paid for us. We remember we are not designed to live as slaves to sin, fear, or men.

We return to the Father.

Priceless Price

When you realize that your price is priceless, you cannot afford small obedience or small ambition.

The price God paid qualifies you to serve Him, not men.

You were not purchased cheaply.
You were not redeemed temporarily.
You were not acquired conditionally.

You were purchased by the precious blood of Christ.

The wealth of nations could not afford you.
The vaults of the world could not secure you.
The markets of the earth could not price you.

Jesus Christ paid for you.

Live like it.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for purchasing me with the precious blood of Christ. Forgive me for the times I have treated myself cheaply or allowed others to define my worth.

Help me to always remember the price You paid for me. Teach me to glorify You in my body and in my spirit, which are Yours. Give me the courage not to be the servant of men, but to serve You faithfully.

Help me to trust You as my Provider, especially in honoring Your Sabbath and all Your other commandments. Let my life reflect the value of redemption.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Activity

1. Write the Price Down.
Take a notebook and write this verse at the top of the page:

“Ye are bought with a price.” (1 Corinthians 7:23)

Underneath it, write:

• What behaviors in my life show that I treat myself cheaply?
• Where have I allowed others to put a price tag on me?
• In what area am I struggling to trust God as my Provider?

Be honest.

2. Identify One Adjustment.
Choose one practical change you will make this week:

• Ending a compromising relationship.
• Honoring the Sabbath more intentionally.
• Refusing to define yourself by material success.
• Speaking differently about your worth.

3. Declare It.
Each morning this week, say out loud:

“I was bought with a price. I belong to God.”

Let that truth reshape your decisions.
