KEY TEXT: 1 Chronicles 29:14 (KJV) – “But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of Thee, and of Thine own have we given Thee.”

Let’s look at the first part of the verse:

“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer willingly after this sort?”

First,

We should understand that having what we have now is a privilege. It is also a privilege to give back to God because giving back to God enables us to be part and parcel in fulfilling God’s great purpose.

Secondly, giving back to God assures us blessings. It ensures us an increase in what we already have. Proverbs 11:24-25 (KJV) – “24 There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. 25 The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.”

Therefore, count it all joy when you can give back to God. And who can give back to God? Everyone alive. Because no one lacks something to offer.

The last part of the verse reads, “for all things come of Thee, and of Thine own have we given Thee.”

“All that man receives of God’s bounty still belongs to God. Whatever God has bestowed in the valuable and beautiful things of earth is placed in the hands of men to test them—to sound the depths of their love for Him and their appreciation of His favors. Whether it be the treasures of wealth or of intellect, they are to be laid, a willing offering, at the feet of Jesus; the giver saying, meanwhile, with David, “All things come of Thee, and of Thine own have we given Thee.”” – Patriarchs and Prophets, Page 753.1, Ellen G. White.

All things come from God. Therefore, when we return tithes and offerings, we do not do God a favor as many think. We are giving to God what belongs to Him.

When we serve God through our various talents, we are not doing the Creator and the Savior a favor. We are giving Him what is rightfully His. When we spend time with God on the Sabbath or on any other day, we are doing what we ought to do because time belongs to God.

Giving back to God is a way of showing gratitude. It tells God, “Thank You for this talent that You have given me”, “Thank You for these resources that You have given me,” or “Thank You for making me alive and giving me this time.”

GOD BLESS YOU!

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for all that You have given me. Please help me to use it for Your glory and for the blessing of Your people. In Jesus name, Amen.
