IS TRUE PEACE POSSIBLE?
KEY TEXT: John 14:27 (KJV) – “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
We often think that we can find peace through the things that this world offers. How wrong we are. John D. Rockefeller, the richest man ever in modern history, said, “Nothing can satisfy, only God.” Many people, Christians and non-Christians alike, have claimed that they thought they would find peace once they reached a certain level of material riches.
Kenyan social media influencer who goes by the name Andrew Kibe said he thought he would be so happy once he bought a Mercedes-Benz S550. After he bought it, he realized it was just another car.
The world and its riches can never give you peace (Ecclesiastes 5:10). It is good to have them for your upkeep and for the greater good of society, but do not expect to find peace in having them. Material things can make your life much better in the sense that they can give you more freedom to access the things you would like, but they can never give you peace or fulfillment (1 Timothy 6:17).
Money can buy many things, but it cannot buy everything. My friend Mary Doms once told me, “Money cannot buy good health; it cannot buy true friends.” Money can buy many good and pricey things, but there are certain valuable and priceless things that money cannot buy.
Money cannot buy any of the gifts of the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:18–20). It cannot buy any of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22–23). The Creator of currency and value, Jesus, can give you far beyond what money can give. He can give you life (John 10:10), good health (Jeremiah 30:17), true friends like Jonathan (1 Samuel 18:1), spiritual and physical blessings (Ephesians 1:3), and that includes peace (Philippians 4:7).
Matthew 11:28 (KJ21) – “Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
God initiated rest for man when He introduced him to the Sabbath (Genesis 2:1-3). When we go to God, He will give us rest. He will give us peace.
The more we interact with Jesus, the more peace we shall receive in our hearts. How do we interact with Jesus? We interact with Him through prayer (Philippians 4:6) and Bible study (2 Timothy 3:16–17). We shall have peace even when faced with the most trying circumstances, and we won’t understand how we are able to have that peace because it is the kind of peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
“When we receive Christ as an abiding guest in the soul, the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, will keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. The Saviour’s life on earth, though lived in the midst of conflict, was a life of peace…. No storm of human or Satanic wrath could disturb the calm of that perfect communion with God. And He says to us: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you.” … Happiness drawn from earthly sources is as changeable as varying circumstances can make it; but the peace of Christ is a constant and abiding peace. It does not depend upon any circumstances in life, on the amount of worldly goods, or the number of earthly friends. Christ is the fountain of living water, and happiness drawn from Him can never fail.” – With God at Dawn, Page 261.2, Ellen G. White.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the source of true peace. Forgive me for the times I have sought peace in worldly things. Help me to rest in You, pray without ceasing, and study Your Word faithfully. Fill my heart with Your peace that surpasses understanding, even in the storms of life. In Your precious name I pray, Amen.

Activity
• Take 10 quiet minutes today to read Philippians 4:6–7.
• Write down in your journal the things that trouble your heart.
• Pray over each one and then write “PEACE IN JESUS” beside them as a reminder that He alone gives true peace.
