CONTINUE IN GOD’S WORD

KEY TEXT: John 8:31 (KJV) – “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him, If ye continue in My word, then are ye My disciples indeed.”

The measure of a true follower of Jesus Christ is one who continues in His Word. This means to remain, abide, dwell, persist, and endure (John 15:7). It suggests ongoing commitment and perseverance. It also means to be rooted in God’s Word (Colossians 3:16).

Those who have chosen to follow Jesus Christ should persist in following Him wherever He leads. This means following Him even when the path is difficult. If God’s Word leads you to the lion’s den like Daniel (Daniel 6:16–23), or to the fiery furnace like the three Hebrew boys (Daniel 3:16–27), go there in faith, for God is with you. You may face trials when keeping the Sabbath or obeying any commandment that God tells you to. Do not give up. Persist in your obedience.

Elisha understood the value of following Elijah everywhere. That is why he persisted in following Elijah, even when Elijah told him to wait behind (2 Kings 2:2–6). Elisha did not mind that the journey was long and tiresome, for he knew the value of staying close. His persistence resulted in receiving a double portion of Elijah’s spirit (2 Kings 2:9–15).

Continuing in God’s Word means walking with Him daily, even when it is not easy. You may not see physical blessings immediately, but persistence brings a deeper knowledge of God, a stronger faith, and eternal rewards. Just as Elisha’s faithfulness led to greater anointing, our faithfulness in clinging to God’s Word positions us for His promises (Hebrews 10:36).

To follow Jesus requires wholehearted conversion at the start, and a repetition of this conversion every day.” – Christ Triumphant, Page 122, Ellen G. White.

The narrow path that leads to our eternal, glorious home is not always pleasant, but its destination is sure (Matthew 7:13–14; 2 Timothy 4:7–8).

Prayer
Dear God, please forgive me for all the times that I have gone astray. Help me to remain steadfast in Your Word. Give me the strength to persist when the path is difficult and give me the faith to trust that Your Word always leads to life. Thank you for answering this prayer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
